Auf diese Weise ergibt sich ein besonders einfacher und robuster Aufbau. Erfindungsgemäß können die Stützteile jeweils mit dem zugeordneten Strangelement verbunden sein. Hierbei verkürzt sich der Abstand zwischen dem Punkt, an dem das Ende 52 des Zugbandes 50 an dem Strangelement 20 festgelegt ist, und der Umlenkrolle 58, so daß die Strangelemente 20, 22, 24, 28 und 30 relativ zueinander und zu dem Strang- element 26 und damit die Stützteile, 6, 8, 10, 14, 16 relativ zueinander und relativ zu dem mittleren Stützteil 12 in Fig. 2 im Uhrzeigersinn verschwenken. In der Fig. 2 dargestellten anderen Endlage der Verstellbewegung, die einer Sitzposition der Stützeinrichtung 2 entspricht, liegen einander zugewandte Flächen benachbarter der Strangelemente 20-30 aneinander an, wie dies aus Fig. 2 ersichtlich ist. In dieser Endlage der Ver- stellbewegung kann der Elektromotor 70 über eine geeignete Endabschaltung abgeschaltet werden. Aus Fig. 2 ist ferner ersichtlich, daß die Ver- schwenklage der Strangelemente 20-30 zueinander in der in Fig. 2 dargestellten Endlage der Verstellbewegung von einem Winkel abhängig ist, den die einander zugewandten Flächen der Strangelemente 20-30 in der in Fig. 5 dargestellten Ausgangslage der Verstellbewegung miteinander einschließen. Durch entsprechende Wahl des jeweiligen Winkels ist somit der Querschnittsverlauf der Stützfläche in der in Fig. 2 dargestellten Endlage der Verstellbewegung in weiten Grenzen wählbar. Dadurch, daß der Stützstrang 18 in der Längsmittelebene der Stützeinrichtung 2 verläuft und mittels des ebenfalls in der Längsmittelebene verlaufenden Zugbandes 50 verstellt wird, wird die Verstellkraft zum Verstellen der Stützteile 6-16 relativ zueinander in der Längsmittelebene in die Stützteile 6-16 eingeleitet.
