Abstract
A work chair comprising a frame (2) having a seat (4) and having a support structure (7, 71) that carries a support pillow (8) against which the user (10) of the chair, as sitting on the seat (4) and being leaning forward, rests with his/her chest, wherein the support structure (7), at the upper end thereof, carries a face shield (11) in a position in front of the face of the user sitting on the work chair.
Description
A working chair
The invention relates to a work chair of the kind that is defined in the preamble of the appended claim 1.
Thus, the invention relates to a work chair that comprises a frame having a seat and having a support structure that car¬ ries a support pillow against which the user of the chair may, as being leaning forward and sitting on the seat, rest with his/her chest, the support structure being provided with arm rests against which the user may, as sitting on the chair, rest his/her forearms.
Such a work chair is previously known from practice.
However, such a chair is per se not fully useful as a work chair for certain types of work, such as, for instance, weld¬ ing work.
Therefore, an object of the invention is to provide a chair of the kind indicated that is well adapted to certain types of work for which the face, eyes and respiratory system of the user may need to be protected in respect of a working opera¬ tion exercised in front of the work chair, such as, for instance, welding. The object is attained by the invention.
The invention is defined in the appended independent claim. Embodiments of the invention are defined in the appended dependent claims.
In the following, an embodiment of the invention will be described by way of examples, reference being made to the appended drawing.
Figure 2 shows a sectioned detail of the chair according to Figure 1.
In Figure 1, a work chair is shown comprising a frame 2, which is carried by casters 3 and carries a saddle-like seat 4 that is carried by a holder 5, which is carried by the frame 2 via a post 6 that may be sprung shock-absorbed and rotatable around a vertical axis. The holder 5 carries a generally vertical post 7 situated in front of the seat 4, which post is provided with a support pillow 8 against which a user 10 may rest his/her chest when the user is sitting conveniently on the seat 4 and is leaning forward slightly. At the upper end thereof, the post 7 carries a generally U-shaped yoke element 9 for a face shield 11, in particular belonging to a welding mask, wherein the shield 11 may be carried for turnability between a raised position and a lowered working position, in a known way, per se. At approximately the half the height thereof, the post 7 has two laterally projecting arm rests 71 for the forearms 171 of the user so that the forearm supports 71 rest against the underside of the forearms 171 at the longitudinally central area of the forearms when the forearms are generally horizontal and the hands of the user are situ¬ ated in the vicinity of each other, and when the user is sit¬ ting on the seat 4 and has his/her chest in contact with the support pillow 8. In this way, the user 10 may conveniently carry out a welding operation in which both hands are engaged to, for instance, hold a welding set and a welding wire, respectively, in the vicinity of a workpiece, while the fore¬ arms 171 are supported in the way outlined. The forearm supports 71 are suitably arranged to be adjustable in relation to the post 7, both in the vertical position and in the pivotal position around the post.
In the preferred embodiment, the post 7 is tubular and arranged to convey fresh air upward to the area between the
lowered shield 11 and the face of the user, the lower end part of the tubular post 7 being connected to a source of fresh air, not shown m detail.
The upper part of the post contains a longitudinal section II, which is illustrated in detail m axial section in Figure II. Thus, the post 7 has a portion 17 the ends 18, 19 of which are coupled to the respective adjacent portions 20, 21 of the post 7 by means of lockable swivel joints 22, 23, which are lock- able m a selectably settable angular setting between the section 17 and the respective adjacent part 20, 21 of the post. Each ball joint comprises a ball 110, which is shown fixedly connected to the post, and a ring-shaped cap surface 111 mating thereto and connected to the portion 17. On the other side of the equatorial plane of the ball 110, there is a friction body 112 mating to the ball 110 and having a cap surface. The bodies 112 are both situated m the area between the two balls 110, and are biased away from each other by a spring 120 that presses the bodies 112 into frictional co-operation with the balls 110 for locking of the joints 22, 23. A linear motor 130 is arranged to selectably compress the spring 120, whereby the joints 22, 23 become disengaged. The motor 130 is suitably electrically driven from a source of power not shown in detail, and is manoeuvrable by a switch 122 that is mounted on the part 17 and biased against a state in which the motor 130 is inactivated.
The section 17 is formed to be surrounded by the hand of the user, wherein the switch 122 may be located to be conveniently actuatable by a finger, for instance the thumb, of the same hand so that the element 17, in doing so, can be turned around the opened joints 22, 23 in relation to both connecting parts of the bar 7. In a preferred embodiment, the post 7 is tubu¬ lar, and the section 17 has an axially through ring-shaped channel closest inside the envelope surface thereof for pass-
ing through fresh air to the upper end of the post for lead- ing-in behind the cover 11, which is shown to have a window that preferably automatically filters off strong radiation from a welding operation, while the operation is m progress.
Furthermore, the upper end portion of the post 7 may carry one or more light sources that are directed toward the working area m question and may be carried directly or indirectly by the yoke 9 or the shield 11 or the mask on which the shield 11 is carried.
From Figure 2, it is clearly seen that the outer tubular casing of the post section 17 is connected at the ends by means of bellows 128 to the connecting tubular parts of the post.
