Abstract

 符号化情報量を増加せず、クリティカルチャネルの符号化精度を向上することができるステレオ符号化装置等を開示する。この装置において、モノラル信号合成部(101)は、左チャネル信号L(n)と右チャネル信号R(n)とを合成してモノラル信号M(n)を生成し、相関係数算出部(102)は、M(n)とL(n)との相関係数CML、M(n)とR(n)との相関係数CMRを算出し、クリティカルチャネル判定部(103)は、CMLとCMRとの比が所定の範囲、例えば、90%以上でかつ111%以下の範囲内に収まらない場合、L(n)とR(n)とのうち、M(n)との相関が小さい方をクリティカルチャネルと判定し、ICP符号化部(104)は、非クリティカルチャネルのICPパラメータの次数よりもクリティカルチャネルのICPパラメータの次数をより高く調整し、ICP符号化を行う。
