Abstract

　符号化情報量を増加せず、クリティカルチャネルの符号化精度を向上することができるステレオ符号化装置等を開示する。この装置において、モノラル信号合成部（１０１）は、左チャネル信号Ｌ（ｎ）と右チャネル信号Ｒ（ｎ）とを合成してモノラル信号Ｍ（ｎ）を生成し、相関係数算出部（１０２）は、Ｍ（ｎ）とＬ（ｎ）との相関係数ＣＭＬ、Ｍ（ｎ）とＲ（ｎ）との相関係数ＣＭＲを算出し、クリティカルチャネル判定部（１０３）は、ＣＭＬとＣＭＲとの比が所定の範囲、例えば、９０％以上でかつ１１１％以下の範囲内に収まらない場合、Ｌ（ｎ）とＲ（ｎ）とのうち、Ｍ（ｎ）との相関が小さい方をクリティカルチャネルと判定し、ＩＣＰ符号化部（１０４）は、非クリティカルチャネルのＩＣＰパラメータの次数よりもクリティカルチャネルのＩＣＰパラメータの次数をより高く調整し、ＩＣＰ符号化を行う。
