Abstract

A plate thickness controller provided in a rolling machine for rolling a metal material performs plate thickness control with high precision by separately detecting variations in rolling load occurring through rotation of an upper roll and a lower roll. Based on the kiss roll time load at a plurality of rotary positions of the upper and lower rolls, each component of variation caused by eccentricity of the roll due to the kiss roll time load is separately extracted for the upper and lower rolls. Based on each variation component due to the kiss roll time load thus extracted, each component of variation caused by eccentricity of the roll due to the rolling load is then extracted individually for the upper and lower rolls. A roll gap command value corresponding to each rotary position is operated based on each variation component of rolling load thus extracted such that variation in plate thickness of a metal material under rolling is reduced and then the roll gas is operated.
