Abstract
Disclosed is a method for regenerating the catalytic activity of a given strongly basic anion exchange resin to a satisfactory level after the resin is used in the production of a fatty acid ester for a biodiesel fuel. When the strongly basic anion exchange resin has a tertiary amine having a pKa value of 9.8 or less bound chemically to an insoluble carrier, the resin which has been used in the production of a fatty acid ester for a biodiesel fuel is washed with a weakly acidic solution, subjected to the replacement of a counter ion with an aqueous alkaline solution, and swelled with a solvent.
