Definitions

  • the present invention relates to dishwashers wherein a program including the regeneration step is operated.
  • a washing program comprised of various steps like pre- washing, main washing, rinsing is employed in a dishwasher.
  • the washing and/or drying performance is inversely proportional to the hardness level of the water.
  • the hardness of the water results from the positive calcium or magnesium ions (Ca++ and Mg++) dissolved therein.
  • the water used in washing is first passed through an ion exchanger, for example a resin.
  • the ion exchanger absorbs these ions from the water and gives off sodium ions (Na+) instead. Consequently, the hardness of the water is reduced.
  • the ion exchanger cannot absorb the calcium and magnesium ions anymore.
  • the ion exchanger is kept in a salt solution (for example NaCl) for separating the calcium and magnesium ions and to enrich the sodium ions again.
  • a salt solution for example NaCl
  • This process is called regeneration. It is important to determine the frequency (after how many washing cycle) of the regeneration process for the performance of the dishwasher. If regeneration is performed more frequently than required, then salt consumption increases needlessly. When the regeneration process is delayed, then lime deposits are formed on the washed dishes.
  • the water hardness level is measured by the user or the after-sales serviceman when the dishwasher is set up and the regeneration frequency is adjusted according to this value. This process takes time and also the adjustment may be incorrect due to possible measurement errors.
  • the object of the present invention is to design a dishwasher wherein the frequency adjustment of the regeneration process is performed practically.
  • the frequency of the regeneration process is implemented by evaluating the geographic position information received from the satellite by the GPS unit integrated to the dishwasher.
  • the geographic position data delivered by the GPS unit is compared with the geographic position- frequency of regeneration table in the memory of the control unit for determining the number of washing programs of which the regeneration has to be performed.
  • the regeneration frequency is updated according to the current geographic position data supplied by the GPS unit. Consequently, the regeneration frequency is automatically determined without the need for any intervention.
  • Figure 1 - is the schematic view of a dishwasher.
  • the elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:
  • the dishwasher (1) provides cleaning of the dishes in accordance with a washing program including at least some of the various steps like pre-washing, main washing, rinsing, drying, and regeneration.
  • the dishwasher (1) comprises a washing chamber (2) wherein the dishes to be washed are emplaced, an ion exchanger (4) that provides to reduce the hardness of the water to be delivered into the washing chamber (2), a salt container (3) containing the salt required for the regeneration of the ion exchanger (4), being in communication with the ion exchanger (4) ( Figure 1).
  • the ion exchanger (4) is not able to receive the calcium and magnesium ions in the water passed over with the lapse of time. Therefore, from time to time the ion exchanger (4) is kept in the salty water solution transferred from the salt container (3) for separating the calcium and magnesium ions and to be enriched with the sodium ions again. This process is called regeneration.
  • the regeneration process is performed periodically after a certain number (n) of washing programs.
  • the regeneration frequency is denoted as "n".
  • the dishwasher (1) comprises a GPS (Global Positioning System) unit (5) that is in communication with a satellite that receives information (data) about its location from the satellite.
  • GPS Global Positioning System
  • the dishwasher (1) furthermore comprises a control unit (6) that determines the regeneration frequency (n) in accordance with the position data received from the GPS unit (5).
  • the table of geographic position - water hardness level - regeneration frequency is loaded in the memory of the control unit (6) by the producer in the factory.
  • the water hardness level data with relation to said geographic position comprises the information collected with the statistical measurements made at site.
  • the frequency at which regeneration should be performed depending on the water hardness level is determined by the tests carried out in the laboratories by the producer.
  • the GPS unit (5) gets in communication with the satellite and transmits the position data received from the satellite to the control unit (6).
  • the control unit (6) matches the position data with the table of geographic position - water hardness level - regeneration frequency for determining the regeneration frequency (n) that should be employed. The regeneration process is performed accordingly after each "n" washing programs periodically.
  • the control unit (6) saves the determined position data in the memory. Every time the dishwasher (1) is operated, the GPS unit (5) communicates with the satellite and receives the position data again. The control unit (6) compares the new position data with the position data in the memory and controls whether or not the geographic position has changed. If there is no change in the geographic position, the processes are carried on without any change. On the other hand, if there is a change in the geographic position, the regeneration frequency (n) is also changed. Consequently, when the location of the dishwasher (1) is changed, the adjustment of the regeneration frequency (n) can be changed easily.
  • the regeneration frequency (n) can be performed without the intervention of the user or the technical serviceman automatically and with high precision.
