- the laundry is contained in a basically cylindrical drum that rotates inside a tank flooded with water during the washing cycle and provided with transversal wedges designed to drag the laundry loaded in the tank.
- a similar drum is traditionally formed of a sheet metal annular shell (or peripheral band) covered in the back and in the front by two flanges, the first front flange being provided with a large central hole to load and unload the laundry to be washed, and the second back flange being fixed against a back cross-piece associated with the shaft of an electric motor that drags the entire structure of the drum into alternate revolutions.
- annular shells In drums used in traditional washers the annular shells are provided with a dense series of small through holes on the entire width. The holes allow the water contained in the tank to be poured inside the drum during the washing cycle and be drained outside at the end of the washing cycle.
- water drainage is produced following to the actuation of a discharge pump, and is additionally favoured by the centrifugal force generated by the high revolution speed imposed to the drum when the washed laundry is spun.
- the internal protection belt is provided with a plurality of small notches on both perimeter sides; evidently, the notches ensure the necessary passage of water from the through holes under the belt to the internal compartment of the drum and vice versa.
- the protection belt has a humpback shape and the annular shell of the drum has a barrel shape, so that the two external borders of the shell have a lower diameter than the central section of the shell where the water holes are concentrated.
- the humpback shape of the central protection belt deviates the water that interferes with the front convex side of the belt towards the two notched edges of the belt.
- the barrel shape, with central convergence, of the shell of the drum conveys the water contained in the drum from opposite sides towards the perimeter notched edges of the protection belt and from there towards the through holes to make the water flow.
- the internal side of the barrel shell is provided with two symmetrically opposite shaped grooves on the entire length, designed to act as slides and convey the water from the peripheral areas of the drum towards the central area of the drum and, in particular, towards the notches provided on the perimeter edges of the protection belt.

- the first peculiarity of the drum (1) consists in the presence of the holes (2) for the passage of water only in the central section (1 b) of the shell (1a) that is preferably deep-drawn outwards; it being also provided that the holes (2) are hidden and protected on the internal side of the shell (1a) by means of an annular convex belt (3), with convexity towards the inside of the drum (1 ), as shown in fig. 4.

- Each notch (5) is a cross-section for the passage of the water that must be poured from the inside towards the outside (and vice versa) of the protection belt (3).
- the peculiarity of the drum (1 ) consists in the fact that the sheet metal shell (1a) has a barrel shape so that the internal walls tend to converge from opposite sides towards the central section (1 b) provided with through holes (2) where the protection belt (3) is mounted.
- the shell (1a) is provided in internal position with two symmetrically opposite series of grooves (6) with a basically V-shaped cross-section; it being also provided that each groove (6) is aligned with each lateral notch (5) of the protection belt (3).
- the alignment between each notch (5) and each groove (6) ensures the optimal development of the water flow - with minimum turbulence - when water is poured from the inside towards the outside (and vice versa) of the protection belt (3).
- the advantage of this solution consists in the fact that, thanks to the solution claimed in this patent application, a higher number and a better distribution of the spoon-shaped slots (7) are obtained on the drum
- the spoon-shaped slots (7) are efficiently screened by the protection belt (3); for the first time, the same slots (7) are provided on the entire perimeter of the drum, with reduced centre-to- centre distance and therefore with a very high capacity to "draw” the water container in the tank where the drum (1 ) rotates.
- the water “drawn” by the spoon-shaped slots (7) flows inside the drum (1 ) through the openings (4a) provided at the ends of the wedges (4) designed to drag the laundry, especially when the wedges (4) reach the top of the tank in "emerged” position following to the revolution of the drum (1 ), as shown in fig. 5.
- a series of partition walls (8) is provided in the internal cavity of the protection belt (3), each of them in intermediate position between two wedges.
- the said partition walls (8) extend transversally with respect to the belt (3), in parallel direction to the rotation axis of the drum (1), as shown in figure 5 and relevant enlarged view of figure 7.
