Abstract

A scheduler (9) enables users (5, 6) to book allotted times for access to computer resources (1) on a network infrastructure. Depending on the nature of the requested task, the scheduler (9) will highlight equipment availability and indicate to the user (6, 7) the designated equipment resource required to complete the task or allow the user to select equipment resource of their choosing. Prior to the appointed time, the scheduler passes on the task request to a controller (16) which configures the computer resources (1) and the network environment to meet the user requirements. At the end of the session, the configuration is imaged and stored to be re-used at the start of the next session so that the user does not experience any perceptible change to their allocated equipment.
