Abstract

The invention is generally directed to a new and novel cushioning pad construction that has particular application as a firearm re-coil pad (10) . The construction includes a gel material (20) to serve as its primary cushioning material. The pad construction (10) of the present invention includes a plastic molded base member (12) that is preferably sized to the object to be cushioned. A bond-promoting fabric layer (14) is either adhered onto or insert molded into the front face (16) of the base member (12) . A low durometer gel material (20) is molded onto fabric layer (14) to bond to the plastic base member (12) . A finish coating layer (24) is applied, such as by spraying or dip coating, onto the gel cushioning layer (20) to finish the novel re-coil pad construction (10) .
