Abstract

A collapsible structure for a folding bed has a first panel (8) and a second panel (10 ) arranged in facing relation to the first panel (8). The panels (8, 10) are biased towards each other by the connection of their peripheral edges. A first support member (36) is connected by a hinge to the first panel (8) and by another hinge to the second panel (10). The first support member (36) has a first main hinge between its ends, such that movement of the first panel (8) towards the second panel (10) causes the first support member (36) to fold about the first main hinge. A second support member (44) is similarly configured between the first panel (8) and the second panel (10). An elastic member (34) is connected between the first and second support members (36, 44) to resist relative movement of the first and second support members in opposite directions. In this way, the elastic member (34) resists the biasing of the first panel (8) and the second panel (10) towards each other when the support members (36, 44) are folded in opposite directions. The first panel (8) can be collapsed towards the second panel (10) by folding the support members (36, 44) in the same direction. The structure provides a lightweight temporary bed that is easily erectable.
