Abstract

A cable adapter port module (CAPM) (105) for providing test access to communication circuits associated with a digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM) includes a first plurality of ports (110) for coupling the CAPM (105) to the DSLAM (112). The CAPM (105) includes a second plurality of ports (115) for coupling the CAPM (105) to a distribution frame (DF) (117). The CAPM includes a selector matrix circuit (120) for switching signals between the DSLAM and the DF. The CAPM (102) includes a controller circuit (125) in communication with the selector matrix circuit (120) for controlling the CAPM (105). The CAPM (105) receives power signals over a communication link (130) for powering the CAPM (125). The controller circuit (125) modulates the power signals over the communication link (130) to communicate information signals for testing the communication circuits.
