Definitions
- the invention concerns a joint device for joining two cable tray parts according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Cable trays of the kind which are formed from a number of longitudinal and a number of transversal metal wires are previously known.
- the latter have usually a shallow U-shaped configuration for forming a chute form.
- Such cable trays are manufactured as cable tray parts having a limited length that have to be joined for obtaining longer stretches of cable trays .
- Known joint devices for cable trays are in there simplest form comprised of plate metal rails, which with the aid of screw devices with a clamping action are applied at the joint areas of two adjacent cable tray parts in order to connect them.
- Joint devices of plate metal having bent-out engagement tongues for co-operation with respective transversal metal wires are also previously known.
- the stabilizing portion includes, as seen in a using position, separate recesses as seen in a vertical direction of a cable tray, for engagement with the shank portions of the transversal metal wires, said recesses each having a width corresponding to a respective metal wire to be received.
- connection in practice will be equally strong as the individual trays to be joined.
- engagement with the transversal metal wires that are positioned outermost on the two trays to be joined is improved.
- these wires are received individually in recesses which are adapted to one single metal wire, which gives superior properties of the connection beside the strength of the connection.
- the connection will be at a great extent independent of tolerances with respect to trays to be joined, since the longitudinal wires of the trays are allowed to project somewhat passed the transversal wires that are subjected to engagement.
- a preferred embodiment of the joint device provides a first engagement portion, around which the joint device is pivotal after initial positioning.
- the mounting is carried out through said initial positioning of this first engagement portion on the first aligned longitudinal metal wires in an outwardly pivoted position of the joint device, where after, in a completely brought-in position of the first engagement portion, the joint device is pivoted around said first aligned metal wires until locking engagement is achieved with second longitudinal metal wires as well as engagement of a stabilizing portion having transversally directed recesses for stabilizing engagement with a transversal metal wire on each cable tray part.
- Fig. 1 shows a joint device according to the invention in a first perspective view
- Fig. 2 shows the joint device in Fig. 1 in a second perspective view
- Fig. 3 shows a section through a cable tray with, on the one hand a joint device during mounting, on the other hand a mounted joint device
- Fig. 4 shows a cable tray with joint devices of Fig. 3 in a perspective view
- Fig. 5 shows the cable tray in Fig. 4 with both joint devices in active positions after their application.
- the joint device for connecting cable tray parts shown in Fig. 1 and 2 includes a first engagement portion for the forming of an obliquely downwardly, inwardly, against the cable tray parts to be connected, directed slot 11, which is limited upwardly by an obliquely, downwardly, inwardly angled rim portion 12.
- a second engagement portion 3 includes snap clamps 4 that are separated in a longitudinal direction of the cable tray parts to be joined, said clamps forming inwardly, i.e. in the transversal direction of the joint device, open slots, and having a support rim 5, which substantially is in line with an upper portion of said snap clamp 4.
- a stabilizing portion 6 is situated centrally on the joint device and provides recesses 7 that are open inwardly in the transversal direction, and are situated between the first and the second engagement portions, for co-operation with transversal metal wires of the cable tray parts to be joined. Further, the stabilizing portion 6 in this embodiment provides also a stabilizing tongue 8, which also includes engagement recesses 9 that are open inwardly in the transversal direction, for co-operation with the same transversal metal wires of the cable tray parts to be connected, as the first mentioned recesses 7.
- FIG. 2 other details of the joint device 1 appear, namely additional recesses in the stabilizing portion 6 being comprised of recesses 7' in the angled rim portion 12, said recesses 7' being formed for co-operation with the outermost portions of the respective transversal metal wires, and are situated in line with the above mentioned recesses 7 and 9 in order to achieve stabilizing recesses, that are distributed essentially over the entire height of the joint device 1, and that are intended to co-operate with transversal metal wires of the cable tray parts to be joined.
- additional recesses in the stabilizing portion 6 being comprised of recesses 7' in the angled rim portion 12, said recesses 7' being formed for co-operation with the outermost portions of the respective transversal metal wires, and are situated in line with the above mentioned recesses 7 and 9 in order to achieve stabilizing recesses, that are distributed essentially over the entire height of the joint device 1, and that are intended to co-operate with transversal metal wires of the cable tray parts to be joined.
- Fig. 3 to the left, is shown a joint device 1 during application against cable tray parts 13 to be connected, whereby the first engagement portion 2 has been hooked onto upper, first aligned longitudinal metal wires 14 of the cable tray, whereas the lower snap clamp 4 of the second engagement portion is not active in the shown position of the joint device.
- the joint device 1 is inserted in pivotal direction/in transversal direction so that also the second engagement portion 3 is active, meaning that the snap clamp 4 is in engaging co-operation with the longitudinal metal wire 17. It also appears from this part of Fig. 3 that there exists overlap of different parts of the joint device 1, viz. of the three portions of the stabilizing 5 portion 6: the angled rim portion 12, the more central part as seen in vertical direction and the stabilizing tongue 8, with the transversal metal wire 19.
- Fig. 5 differs from Fig. 4 only in the sense that also the left joint device 1 has been pivoted down to its active engagement position, whereby the recesses IX , 1 and 9 as well as 10, 10' have reached engagement positions with their respective transversal metal wires 19', 19", 20', 20".
- the joint device ensures engagement with two transversal metal wires on each cable tray portion, but within the scope of the invention is also to have engagement with only one transversal metal wire on each cable wire part.
- the stabilizing engagement is preferably ensured in as great a distance as possible on shank portions of the transversal metal wires (corresponding to the shanks of a U formed by a • transversal metal wire) .
- This can be realized in different ways, but it is preferred that engagement is secured on the one hand innermost on the shank portions with the aid of recesses 9, on the other hand farther out on the shank portions with recesses 7 and/or 7'.
- Each one of the recesses shown on the figure having reference numbers 7, 9 and 10 is a transversally directed recess having a width corresponding to the metal wire to be received in the recess.
- Each recess is in these parts positioned in a convexly bent portion of the joint device for achieving a closed structure being comprised of an edge portion surrounding the entire recess, which results in very good durable stability for a mounted joint device.
- the engagement of the first and second engagement portion can be realized otherwise than what is shown on the figures, but aiming to ensure stable engagement as well as simple application, these engagement portions are open in a transversal direction of the joint device. Any displacement of any tray part or of the joint device itself in the length direction of the cable tray in connection with joining is therefore not to be expected.
- connection is achieved through only one movement in transversal directions of the joint device against cable tray parts that can be immovable.
- the embodiment shown in the figures, wherein the joint device after engagement with the first engagement portion, is pivoted a limited angle for completing the positioning, is preferred since it is associated with a simple and defined mounting movement .
- the first engagement portion is shown with a slot directed obliquely downwardly, inwardly as seen in an applied position. It could, however, also be constructed with a slot directed essentially straight inwardly and straight downwardly, respectively.
