Abstract

This invention relates to herbal formula extracted from different seven plants for the treatment of chronic bronchial asthma. These plants are available in Egypt; chamomile flowers, anise, fennel and caraway fruits, licorice roots, cardamom and black seeds. These herbs are boiled in water (as will be mentioned in details) and can be drunk hot, warm or cold as favored by patient once in the morning and once in the evening. This herbal tea helps in the treatment of the symptoms of bronchial asthma in respect to cough frequency and intensity as well as sleep discomfort. This was evident in vivo study clinically on volunteer patients and in vitro study on rat mast cells; as it inhibits the release of Histamine, which causes allergy. It was proven that this novel herbal tea enhances the respiration by measuring FEVI/FVC for patients who used the tea in addition to a lower dose of their medicines under a physician's supervision.

Description

Herbal Formula for the treatment of Allergic Asthma (Chronic Bronchial Asthma)
The background art:
The previous mentioned plants are being used individually for different medical purposes; chamomile used for the treatment of inflammations, colic, and as demulcent, and anti-microbes and fungi, anis and caraway also used as demulcent and for the treatment of simple colic cases, fennel used, besides the previous usages, for enhancing respiration, licorice roots essentially used in the treatment of rheumatic inflammations and ulcer, and as expectorant, while black seeds used as diuretic, and in alleviating and treating cough , and finally cardamom used as demulcent and for treating the simple cases of colic, and as anti-septic, and mainly as flavor and smell. Such plants have never been gathered in one formula for the treatment of bronchial asthma. Currently, for the treatment of chronic bronchial asthma, the used medicines operate as lήstamitie receptors in the body as kitofane or other drugs provoking p2 receptors as salbitamol (ventoleen).
The deficiency or problem in the previous art:
Bronchial asthma (allergic asthma) is associated with chronic symptoms though which the patient suffers during the long span of medications which, in turn, cause a lot of side effects. These side harms sound fragile and simple in the short term; however, they would be gross and risky on the long term being detrήnental to liver and kidney.
The pharmaceutical world with its big companies results in stopping the use of medical plants and herbs, which had been previously used in traditional and folk medicine.
Nevertheless, with the decline of economic status in general and the high prices of medicines and doctors' examinations fees, the world is back again in the research of medical plants based on scientific base. China and India challenge each other in this field, and now advanced countries as America begin to bring up what is called "Alternative or complementary medicine"
The new in the invention:
Tins invention relates to a new formula comprising a mixture of the previous mentioned medical herbs and its use in the treatment of allergic asthma. This herbal tea is packed in common paper sachets to be boiled in water. It is easily prepared having natural sweet taste without addition of any sugary substances, in such manner; it does not give the patient that sense of taking medication. The relevant formula causes no harms upon using it for long time, in addition to its affirmative impact in the treatment as it was proven in the experiment conducted within in vitro studies on rat mast cells and in vivo ones on voluntary patients. Where the patients can lower the dose of their medicines associated with regularly taking this herbal tea once in the mourning and once in the evening (there no harm, if it is taken three times a day). Besides its properties in treating chronic bronchial asthma, the related formula provides actual protection against the diseases of hepatic and renal failure. Furthermore, it distinguished in the availabilities of its components in Egypt, its low price with lessen costs, its preparation needs no complex equipments, and easily to be applied hi Egypt at a convenient price according to our economic status.
The detailed description:
This invention includes the preparation of new herbal formula used for the treatment of allergic asthma, as follows: - The ingredients: - 3 tablespoonful (7 lA gm) of dried and grinded chamomile flowers - 1 teaspoonful (2 lA gm) of dried and grinded anis fruits - 1 teaspoonful (2 lA gm) of dried and grinded fennel fruits - 1 teaspoonful (2 A gm) of dried and grinded caraway fruits - 1/8 teaspoon (0.3 gm) of dried and grinded licorice roots - 1 teaspoon (2 lA gm) of cardamom to be freshly grinded upon making the mixture - lA teaspoon (1.3 gm) of black seeds to be freshly grinded upon making the mixture
The method of preparation:
- Adding the ingredients of chamomile, anis, fennel, caraway, and licorice to a glass of water (200 cm) to be boiled for 5 minutes. - Grinding the seeds of cardamom and black seeds to be added to the previous mixture associated with the addition of another glass of water (200 cm) and boiled for another 5 minutes while maintain the mixture covered all the time - Covering during cooling the resulting solution (for condensing water vapor that are rich with the effective substances so as to dissolve again hi the solution) then filtering it to be ready for o nking hot, warm, or cold once i the morning and once in the evening. The exploitation method:
The relevant herbal formula for the treatment of allergic asthma is simply offered in the form of paper packages, (like usual tea bags), where each package contams 2 sachets; one filled with the dried powder of chamomile, anis, fennel, caraway, and licorice, and the other one contams un-smashed seeds of cardamom and black seeds.
Any pharmaceutical company can utilize this formula and offer it in reasonable prices since the method of preparation and the plants involved are not expensive, and will not need high costs i consideration to our economic status as developing country.
