COMBINATION MATCHING FRAGRANCED PRODUCTS
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to body care and household products and containers for such products.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
There exists a wide array of products for use during bathing and for personal hygiene such as body wash solutions, soaps, shampoos, bath beads, bath salts, bath balms, bath oils, conditioners, rinses, hair gels, shower gels, body sprays, moisturizers, deodorants and air fresheners (hereinafter referred to collectively as "body care products"). Similarly, there exists a wide array of products for use in the household such as soaps, detergents, cleaners, air fresheners, and deodorizers (hereinafter referred to collectively as "household products"). It is desirable to combine the use of a particular set of a matching fragranced plurality of these products to create a pleasing and often therapeutic layered aroma for the user. To achieve the desired combined aromatic effects of these products, each product fragrance must be carefully chosen and matched. Typically, to use a plurality of matching scented body care or household products to achieve a desired combined aromatic effect, a number of separately contained body care or household products are gathered and utilized. There is some inconvenience associated with gathering of separately contained products and ensuring that each time they are used, the appropriate products are being combined.
Many patents, including US patent nos. 5,065,875, 5,135,116, 3,225,951 , 4,235,343, 251 ,566, and 4,805,798 teach containers having an insert area for nesting a second container. However none of these patents teach or suggest the effective use of same for containing and dispensing two or more of the above mentioned matching scented body care or household products, which may be effectively utilized in a bathing environment.
US patent nos. 2,204,784, and 544,219 teach containers having two separate chambers. However, neither of these patents teaches or suggests the effective containing and dispensing of two or more matching scented body care or household products in an effective manner.
US patent no. 5,316,398 discloses a molded bottle and a stick dispenser, wherein the molded bottle includes a cavity in a side thereof. The cavity extends in a longitudinal direction along the side of the bottle and includes an opening, sized to receive and nest the stick dispenser. The stick dispenser has a tubular body having a cap at one end and a rotatable end, which acts as a means to advance or dispense the material housed within the dispenser. The stick dispenser must be removed from the cavity for dispensing of materials therefrom. US patent no. 5316398 does not disclose or suggest a container which allows for dispensing of the material in the stick dispenser while the stick dispenser is attached to said bottle nor does it disclose or suggest the effective containing of a plurality of matching scented body care or household products.
US patent no. 5,350,058 teaches a container having two chambers. The bottom chamber has openings therein. However, there is no teaching or suggestion of using the container to hold or dispense matching scented body care or household products.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is an object of the present invention to overcome, inter alia, the shortcomings of the prior art described above by providing a means to contain a plurality of matching scented body care or household products. The invention provides methods for attaching such products with a synergistic product having a matching fragrance.
In accordance with an aspect of the invention there is provided, in combination, a first body care or household product having a first fragrance
and a second body care or household product having a fragrance matching said first fragrance, said first and second body care or household products contained in a container defining a first chamber for containing said first body care or household product and a second chamber for containing said second body care or household product.
In accordance with a further aspect of the invention there is provided in combination, a first body care or household product container detachably secured to a second body care or household product container, said first body care or household product container having a first wall forming a first chamber for receiving a first body care or household product having a fragrance, and said second body care or household product container having a second wall forming a second chamber for a second body care or household product having a matching fragrance. In an example of this aspect of the invention, the first body care or household product container holds a liquid body care or household product and the second body care or household product container holds a solid form body care or household product. Each said container has a dispenser for dispensing the respective body care or household product. The dispenser is positioned in the second chamber such that the solid form body care or household product may be dispensed regardless of whether the first container is detached or attached to the first container.
In accordance with a further aspect of the invention, there is provided a bottle comprising in combination: a bottom wall and at least one upstanding side wall formed to receive a body care or household product therein; the side wall converging to provide a closeable top; and a cavity formed on an outer surface of the side wall, directed inwardly of the bottle and configured to receive a body care or household product container therein. This cavity may be adapted to form a releasable interference fit with the body care or household product container. In an example of this aspect of the invention, the cavity is vertically oriented and has an open middle
portion and an upper cavity portion defined in part by an outer downwardly extending upper cavity wall and a lower cavity portion defined in part by an outer upwardly extending lower cavity wall. The length of the cavity is slightly longer than that of the body care or household product container. The length of the open middle portion is less than the length of the body care or household product container. The body care or household product container may be inserted into the cavity by first inserting a first end into the longer of the two of the upper and lower cavity portions until the opposite end clears the opposite cavity wall, thereby allowing the body care or household product container to be inserted into the cavity. The body care or household product container is retained within the cavity being blocked at each end thereof by the upper and lower cavity portions. Advantageously, this configuration of cavity allows for the releasable attachment of containers for body care or household products without requiring frictional forces required for interference or friction fitting engagement.
Other aspects and features of the present invention will be understood by those of ordinary skill in the art from a review of the following detailed description read in conjunction with the accompanying figures.

DESCRIPTION OF SPECIFIC EMBODIMENTS
The present invention teaches in combination, a first body care or household product having a first fragrance and a second body care or household product having a fragrance matching said first fragrance, said first and second body care or household products contained in a container defining a first chamber for containing said first body care or household product and a second chamber for containing said second body care or household product. The container may include further chambers for containing further matching scented products as will be discussed below.
Using matching scented body care or household products as body wash solutions, shampoos, bath beads, bath salts, bath balms, bath oils air freshener and after bathing, such as body sprays and deodorants, creates a synergistic and highly desirable aromatic effect. By providing a plurality of matching scented body care or household products in one container, it will be easier for the user to apply matching scenting products as he or she will not have to gather various containers of the various matching scented products together. Furthermore, by providing the matching scented products together, the likelihood of the user inadvertently or unknowingly using non matching scented products is reduced, thereby possibly saving the user the embarrassment of creating unpleasant fragrance combinations. The term "matching" is used herein to mean one that closely smells like or
harmonizes with the other. .
Shown in Figures 1 to 4 are embodiments of a container in accordance with the invention. In combination, a first body care or household product container 20 is detachably secured to a second body care or household product container 22. The first body care or household product container has a first wall 24 forming a first chamber for receiving a first body care or household product having a fragrance, and the second body care or household product container 22 has a second wall 26 forming a second chamber for a second body care or household product having a matching fragrance. In the example shown in Figures 1 to 4, the first body care or household product container 20 holds a liquid body care or household product, such as body wash (or shampoo or liquid soap) and the second body care or household product container 22 holds a solid form body care or household product, for example a deodorant or antiperspirant stick. The container 22 for the deodorant stick is a deodorant dispenser which includes a lid 28 for capping a deodorant stick dispenser at one end and a rotatable dispensing wheel 34 positioned at a second opposite end for advancing the deodorant out of said second body care or household product container 22. Advantageously the deodorant may be dispensed by rotating the dispensing wheel 34 when the second wall and chamber formed thereby is attached to the first container 20. The first container 20 includes a suitable dispenser such as a removable cap 30 having a dispensing opening 31 with flip top attached cover 32. As can be seen in Figures 1 to 4, the first wall 24 and second wall 26 are configured to form a releasable interference fit therebetween. In the embodiment of Figures 1 and 2, protrusions 36 extend from the first container wall and engage mating slots 38 on the second container wall in friction fit. In the embodiment of Figures 3 and 4 a single protrusion 36 extends across the mating surface between . the walls engaging a mating slot 38 for snap fit therein. It should be understood that the protrusions may be positioned on either the first wall or second wall, and may take any suitable form or forms and shape.
The embodiments of Figures 1 to 4 include at least one flat sides to allow placement on a flat surface.
As can been seen in Figures 5 to 10 a bottle 40 has a bottom wall 42 and an upstanding side wall 44 formed to receive a body care or household product therein. The side wall converges to provide a closeable top 46. A cavity 50 is formed on an outer surface of the side wall 44 and is configured to receive a body care or household product container 48 therein. The side wall may include more than one cavity 50 such as is shown in Figures 5 and 6 which allows the combination of more than two body care or household products. In the embodiments of Figures 5 to 10 each cavity 50 is vertically oriented and has an open middle portion 52 and an upper cavity portion 54 defined in part by an outer downwardly extending upper cavity wall 56 and a lower cavity portion 58 defined in part by an outer upwardly extending lower cavity wall 60. The length of the cavity L1 is slightly longer than the length of the body care or household product container L2. As can be seen in the Figures, the body care or household product container 48 is used for containing such products as bath beads, body sprays, but may be used for any body care or household product. . Preferably, the upper 54 and lower 58 cavity portions are of different lengths. The length of the open portion (L3) is less than the length of the body care or household product container (L2). As is shown in Figures 8 to 10, the body care or household product container 48 may be inserted into the cavity 50 by first inserting a first end into the longer of the two of the upper 54 and lower 58 cavity portions until the opposite end clears the opposite cavity wall. The body care or household product container 48 is retained within the cavity 50, being blocked at each end thereof by the upper and lower cavity walls 56, 60.
Advantageously the aspect of the invention shown in Figures 5 to 10 provides for the releasable attachment of body care or household product containers upon a bottle, without requiring the frictional forces such as those required for friction or, interference fitting, thereby allowing the use of less rigid containers.
The invention encompasses the use of any type of container suitable for the
containing body care or household products and for the purposes and ease of illustration certain embodiments by way of example only have been illustrated. Examples of other containers which could be used in accordance with the invention are wide rim capped bowls, tubs, tubes, boxes, sticks, or other containers which are manufactured for various usages but which also are utilized for the sale of various body care or household products. Therefore, the term container within this application is used as a generic definition rather than a limiting definition.
Further examples of embodiments of an aspect of the invention, namely liquid product containers with air freshener containers are described below and shown in Figures 11 to 20. In these embodiments which are designed as refill containers, a first body care or household product, soap, is contained in a first container 100 and a second related product, such as an air freshener, having a matching scent to the first product is contained in a second container 104, attached thereto in various means as will be described. Although specific products are shown to be contained in each of the containers, it should be understood that any matching scented body care or household products could be contained in each of containers 100 and 104 shown in Figures 11 to 20.
In one embodiment of this aspect of the invention, shown in Figure 11 , a container 100 for a liquid body care or household product such as soap or the like having an upper dispensing opening 102, utilize elastics 412 to affix an air freshener refill or other container 104 to the first container 100. Container 104 may alternatively be held to the container 100 by means of an adhesive tape or label. Optionally container 104 may also be held to the container 100 by means of an adhesive tape, label or elastic (not shown) to hold the attached product in place.
In another embodiment, shown in Figure 12, shrink wrap 610 is utilized to wrap the air freshener refill container 104 to container 100. In Figure 13, illustrated is an embodiment of a container 100 for a liquid body care or household product, utilizing clips 410 to affix the air freshener refill container 104, to the container.
In other embodiments, shown in Figures 14 and 15, a container for a liquid body care
or household product, such as soap 100A, utilizes a friction fit between the container for the air freshener refill 104A. A mating tongue 120 and groove 121 are utilized to accomplish the friction fit arrangement. In one embodiment, shown in Figure 14 the tongue 120 is positioned on the soap container 100A with mating groove 121 on the air freshener container 104A, and in an alternate embodiment shown in Figure 15, the groove and tongue are oppositely oriented. As shown, the air freshener container has at least one opening 125 for allowing the dispersion of the fragrance, which is preferably matching with that of the body care or household product in container 100A. Although shown attached at the lower end of container 100A, container 104A could be attached to the side wall of container 100A utilizing this tongue and groove arrangement.
In an embodiment of the invention such as is shown best in Figure 16, a container is a bottle 100A comprising in combination a bottom wall 42, and. an upstanding side wall 44 formed to receive a body care or household product therein. The side wall converges to provide a closeable top 102. A cavity 150 is formed on an outer surface of the side wall 44, configured to receive a body care or household product container 104B therein. The cavity is adapted to form a releasable interference fit with the body care or household product container 104B. As shown in Figure 16, body care or household product container is used to contain a matching scented air freshener refill cartridge. It should be understood that any body care or household product container for any suitable body care or household product may be utilized by fitting same in interference fit with a mating shaped cavity in container 100A. Container 104B may contain, for example concentrated breath drops, aerosol or non-aerosol breath spray, dissolving breath strips or chewing gum, while bottle 100A may contain a mouth wash with a matching flavour. In another embodiment, container 104B may contain, for example a liquid fabric softener, fabric softener sheets, static guard dryer sheets, or stain remover, while bottle 100A may contain a laundry detergent with a matching fragrance. In another embodiment, container 104B may contain, for example a fabric deodorizing spray, while bottle 100A may contain a stain remover with a matching fragrance. In another embodiment, 100A
could take the form of a deodorizing or scented candle, and 104B could be a matching fragrance air freshener.
In another embodiment of a container 102 for liquid body care or household product, shown in Figure 17, the cavity 150A is designed to accept an elongate shaped container 104C for an air freshener. This cavity is vertically oriented and longitudinally shaped and has an open middle portion 151 , an upper cavity portion 152 defined in part by an outer downwardly extending upper cavity wall 153, and a lower cavity portion 154 defined in part by an outer upwardly extending lower cavity wall 155, the length of the cavity L1 being slightly longer than the length L2 of container 104C, and the length L3 of the open portion 151 is less than that of container 104C, thereby allowing the insertion and retention of said second container in said cavity without a friction or snap fit type engagement. When in place the second container is secured by the top and bottom cavities. Container 102 may contain body wash, shampoo, conditioner, bubble bath or the like, while container 104C may contain bath beads, depilatory cream, exfoliating scrub, lotion shaving cream, aftershave, cologne or gel with a matching fragrance. In other embodiments, container 102 may contain dish soap, detergent or the like, while container 104C may contain presoak effervescent tablets, concentrated anti grease spray, stain remover or the like with a matching fragrance. In other embodiments, container 102 may contain mouth wash, while container 104C may contain tooth brush cleaning effervescent tablets. In this embodiment, container 104 C may be a tooth brush rinse container. The tooth brush rinse container may include a vibrating mechanism to facilitate brush cleaning.
In yet another further embodiment, shown in Figure 18, a container for liquid body care or household product 100, utilize pins or snaps 416 to affix the air freshener container 104 to the container 100.
In yet another embodiment, shown in Figures 19 and 20, a container for liquid body care or household product 100 having an upwardly extending neck 103 extending to an upper dispensing opening 102, has a bag or pouch like container 104D defining a
central opening 105 through which the neck 101 is inserted, thereby retaining the bag or pouch like container on the container 100. In a similar embodiment, the second container may be attached to the first container using a living hinge made from a polymer.
In yet another embodiment, shown in Figure 21 and 22, liquid body care or household product container 100E includes an upwardly opening vertically oriented groove/slot 702 formed on the outside of the container, extending downwardly from the top of the container. Second body care or household product container 104E includes a vertically oriented tongue 700 which is adapted to be inserted into and retained in the upwardly opening vertically oriented groove 702. The vertical oriented tongue and groove may form any suitable shape, such as for example the t- shape of the embodiment of Figure 21 and 22. Thus the attached container 104E slides up and down a slot or rack (groove 702) of container 100E. In another embodiment, shown in Figures 36, 37, the tongue 700 is attached to clips 999 which in turn hold container 104E. In yet another embodiment shown in Figure 38, container 997 is snapped to the side of container 998. Container 997 has a living hinge on the top, side or bottom to allow the product to come out.

As is shown in Figures 23 and 24 an elongate circular shaped body care or household product container 48 which may, for example, contain bath beads or any other body care or household product, may be inserted and retained in groove 702A. Optionally, a slotting and clipping mechanism may be used wherein clips associated with the goove 702A are used to releasably hold the attached product in place.
The embodiment shown in Figures 26 to 27 includes a container 100G having a semi-circular shaped groove 705 adapted to accept a mating circular cross sectioned object therein. As is shown in Figures 23 and 24 an elongate circular shaped body care or household product container 48B which may contain any other body care or
household product, may be inserted and retained in groove 705 by means of a partial interference fit between it and the edges of groove 705. Container 48B snaps into the groove 705 and can be subsequently popped out again. Alternatively, the container 48B can be releaseably attached by means of a friction fit or by the use of a Velcro™ type of fastener. Container 48B may alternatively be held to the container 100G by means of an adhesive tape or label.
The embodiment shown in Figure 28 includes a container 100H having an upwardly opening seat 706 adapted to accept a container 48C therein. An elongate circular shaped body care or household product container 48C which may contain any body care or household product, may be inserted and retained in seat 706. Optionally container 48C may be held to the container 100H by means of an adhesive tape, label or elastic 708 to hold the attached product in place. The container 100H may contain, for example shampoo or conditioner, while container 48C may contain, for example, hair spray, hair gel, conditioning spray or hot oil hair treatment having a scent matched to the shampoo or conditioner.
The embodiment shown in Figure 29 includes a container 100J having a groove 710 adapted to accept a mating circular cross sectioned object therein. As is shown in Figure 29 series of candles, bath beads, bath salt tablets, bath balm containers, incense tablets, effervescent tablets, effervescent balls, bath oil containers or the like stacked and wrapped into an elongate circular shape 712 may be inserted and retained in groove 710 by means of an adhesive tape, shrink wrap, elastic, or label 714. The product of elongate circular shape 712 has a scent which is matched with the scent of the product contained in container 100J.
The embodiment shown in Figures 30 and 31 shows a first container 20 having a first cap 30 through which the product of first container 20 (e.g. body wash liquid soap) is dispensed and a removable second cap 720 holding a puff, scrub or wash cloth product 722. Product 722 is made from a scented product or provided with a scent which is matched with the scent of the product of first container 20.
In a related embodiment shown in Figure 32, the invention provides an aerosol or
pump air freshener spray container 800 wherein a portion of the container, such as the cap 801 contains an air freshener and has holes 805 for allowing dissemination of an air fragrance which matches the fragrance of the product container in the container 800. It will be appreciated that the air fragrance may be secured into the cap by any means known in the art, such as hooks, pins, adhesives, or the like. In a related embodiment, shown in Figure 33, the cap 802 or any other portion of the container 800 may be composed of a scented polymer.
