Abstract

This product consists of wooden subjects, for instance pallets, which are treated with a thermoplastic material, for instance paraffin, which forms a coating of the subject, so that the wood is not porous, the subject can be wet disinfected.

Description

Wooden pallets/wooden subjects coated for use in hygienically sensitive productions.
The idea is to manufacture wooden pallets/wooden subjects which can be used in production rooms, where there are requirements for hygiene, and which therefore have to fulfil the requirements for being: 1. Desinfectable 2. Not porous 3. Cleansable
As the arguments for not allowing pallets/subjects made of wood in production rooms in firms where there are requirements for hygiene are: 1. Pallets/subjects made of wood are not easy to disinfect. 2. Pallets/subjects made of wood are porous and can soak up fluid with the risk that bacteria may develop. 3. Pallets/subjects made of wood are not easy to clean properly.
The coating treatment result in that all tree requirements can bee fulfilled, so that the wooden pallets/the wooden subjects can be used in production areas in firms, where there are requirements for hygiene.
The wooden pallets/the wooden subjects are immersed into a thermoplastic material, for instance paraffin, which is made fluent by heating. The subject is immersed for so long, that a penetration of the fluent mass into the surface of the wood takes place, while all cracks and splits on the surface of the wood are being covered by a coating of the thermoplastic material, The subject is now free of bacteria on the surface, can be cleaned with water and cleansers and will not absorb fluid, as all pore in the wood are sealed.
Background:
Foodstuff companies in the EU are prohibited from using wooden pallets in production rooms, this mean that the companies often have to use a lot of resources in restacking goods from wooden pallets onto plastic pallets and vice versa, as goods that arrive at the firms and are dispatched from the firms often are placed on wooden pallets, as wooden pallets are the cheapest alternative to plastic or steel pallets. If those wooden pallets can be made legal for use in the production areas, resources can be saved, and at the same time savings can be made on the physical furnishing of production areas, as a separation of production and palletizing is now required, will in future be avoidable.

Claims

Patent claim:
Coated wooden pallets/subjects or subjects containing wood which are new, as the subjects are covered with a coating of thermoplastic material, which penetrates into the wood and covers the entire surface, so that the wood is not porous. The new part is that the subject can easily be disinfected and cleansed, so that it can be approved for use in production areas, where for instance authorities require high hygiene standards.
The size, form, and the type of wood of the wooden subjects are not limited as well as the wood may be combined with other materials that is also covered by this patent claim.
