Abstract

A pair of gloves is provided for right and left hands. Each glove is a shaped covering with individual sheaths for each finger and a thumb. Each glove is formed with a front (10) and a back (12) in which one glove has two narrow bands (14), (15), delineated across its front (10). The front (10) and back (12) of both gloves are each bi-coloured or bi-patterned in mutually exclusive portions such that, when worn, and a golf club (not shown) is being held in a correct grip, only portions of one colour or pattern are visible to the user. One glove has a substantially circular formation (17) on the sheath for the thumb for location, in use, against a substantially semi-circular formation (19) provided on the front of the other glove. The semi-circular formation (19) is directed towards the sheath for the thumb.

Description

GOLF GLOVES

This invention relates to a pair of gloves for use primarily, but not exclusively, in playing golf or as a training aid in playing golf for holding a golf club in a ' correct grip' i.e. a grip in which the use of a golf club is to be maximised to give a beneficial stroke.

Accordingly, the present invention is a pair of gloves for right and left hands, each glove being a shaped covering with individual sheaths for each finger and a thumb, each glove being formed with a front and a back in which at least one glove has at least one narrow band delineated across its front, the front and back of both gloves each being bi- coloured or bi-pattemed in mutually exclusive portions such that, when worn, and a golf club is being held in a correct grip, only portions of one colour or pattern are visible to the user.

Preferably, said one glove has a substantially circular formation on the sheath for the thumb for location, in use, with a substantially semi-circular formation provided on the front of the other glove, the semi-circular formation being directed towards the sheath for the thumb. A dart of material of contrasting colour or pattern to the surrounding material is beneficially provided at the bottom of the sheath for the thumb of the back of each glove, the dart being directed from a crease between the sheaths for the thumb and forefinger towards a cuff of the glove.

The bi-colours or bi-patterns selected are desirably of a contrasting appearance, for example light and dark colours or different patterns.

Preferably also, a fastening device is provided on the back of each glove at or near to the cuff. The fastening device beneficially comprises a slit being provided from the cuff towards the finger sheaths with a first zone of one part of a two part fastening being provided on the outer face of the back adjacent to one side of the slit, and a tab being provided on the back of the other side of the slit to overlie the first zone, the second zone to mate with the first zone being provided on the undersurface of the tab. The two part fastening is desirably a VELCRO (RTM) fastening. The cuff preferably has an elasticated membrane. Preferably further, the shapes of the portions of the fronts and backs of the gloves to be coloured or patterned differently are determined by the visible and non- visible areas of the gloves, in use, when a correct grip of the golf club is adopted by a user.

An embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings, in which:-

Fig. 1 is a plan view of a back of a left-hand glove;

Fig. 2 is a plan view of a front of a left hand glove;

Fig. 3 is a plan view of a back of a right hand glove;

Fig. 4 is a plan view of a front of a right hand glove; Fig. 5 is a plan view of the left hand glove with a thumb sheath over the front of the glove; and

Fig. 6 is a plan view of the left hand glove with a fastening device open.

Referring to the drawings, a pair of gloves for right and left hands is provided. Each glove is a shaped covering with individual sheaths for each finger and a thumb. Each glove is formed with a front 10 and a back 12 in which one glove has two narrow bands 14, 15 delineated across its front 10, the bands 14, 15 partially merging with each other at one end and being angled away from each other at the other end as shown. The front 10 and back 1 of both gloves are bi-coloured in mutually exclusive portions 16, 18 such that, when worn, and a golf club (not shown) is being held in a correct grip, only portions of one colour are visible to a user.

One glove has a substantially circular formation 17 on the sheath for the thumb for location, in use, against a substantially semi-circular formation 19 provided on the front 10 of the other glove. The semi-circular formation 19 is directed towards the

sheath for the thumb. A dart 28 of material of contrasting colour or pattern to the

surrounding material is provided at the bottom of the sheath for the thumb of the back

12 of each glove. The dart 28 being directed from a crease between the sheaths for

the thumb and forefinger towards a cuff 20 of the glove.

The bi-colours selected are of a contrasting appearance, for example light and

dark colours such as light grey, light fawn, white or yellow combined with dark grey,

dark fawn, black, dark blue or brown, or different patterns.

A fastening device is provided on the back of each glove at or near to the cuff

20. The fastening device comprises a slit 21 provided from the cuff 20 towards the

finger sheaths with a first zone 25 of one part of a two part fastening being provided on

the face of the back 12 adjacent to one side of the slit 21 , and a tab 23 being provided

on the back 12 at the other side of the slit 21 to overlie the first zone. A second zone

27 of a second part of the fastening to mate with the first zone 25 is provided on the

undersurface of the tab 23. The two part fastening is a VELCRO (RTM) fastening.

The cuff 20 has an elasticated membrane 22.

Between the portions 16, 18 on the backs 12 of each glove, a strip 24 or an

elongate panel of material similar in colour or pattern to the material of the dart 28, is

provided to appear, in use, visible and substantially parallel to the dart 28 when both gloved hands formed into a correct grip of the golf club is adopted by a user. The strips 24 are shown in Figs. 1 and 3.

A vent opening 30 is provided between each finger sheath adjacent to its junction with the rest of the glove. An elasticated membrane 31 is also provided across the back of each glove as

shown.

Each finger sheath on the back of each glove is vented by apertures 32. The shapes of the portions 16, 18 of the fronts 10 and backs 12 of the gloves to be coloured differently are determined by the visible and non-visible areas of the gloves in use when a correct grip of the golf club is adopted by the user. The shapes are shown in the drawings. The colours on the portions 16, 18 of the gloves may be stamped or printed on the gloves or each portion may be a separate piece of material of relevant colour and the portions sewn, stitched or otherwise secured together to form the gloves.

In use, the gloves are worn and are used to hold a golf club in a correct grip. The formation of the grip, formed by bringing both gloved hands together around the handgrip of a golf club, being correct when only the colour of portions 18 (apart from the darts 28 and strips 24) are visible to the user. To assist this correctness of grip, the circular formation 17, on the one glove is pressed against the semi-circular formation 19 of the other glove.

In a modification, the portions 16, 18 may be bi-patterned or a combination of a colour and a pattern. Variations and other modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the invention described above and as claimed hereinafter.

Claims

CLAIMS:

1. A pair of gloves for right and left hands, each glove being a shaped covering with individual sheaths for each finger and a thumb, each glove being formed with a front and a back in which at least one glove has one or more narrow bands delineated across its front, the front and back of both gloves each being bi-coloured or bi- patterned in mutually exclusive portions such that, when worn, and a golf club is being held in a correct grip, only portions of one colour or pattern are visible to a user.

A pair of gloves as claimed in Claim 1 , wherein one glove has a substantially circular formation on the sheath for the thumb for location, in use, with a substantially semicircular formation provided on the front of the other glove, the semi-circular formation being directed towards the sheath for the thumb.

A pair of gloves as claimed in Claim 1 or 2, wherein a dart of material of a contrasting colour or pattern to the surrounding material is provided at the bottom of the sheath for the thumb of the back of each glove, the dart being directed from a crease between the sheaths for the thumb and forefinger towards a cuff of the glove.

4. A pair of gloves as claimed in Claim 1 , 2 or 3 wherein the bi-colours or bi-patterns selected are of a contrasting appearance.

5. A pair of gloves as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 4, wherein a fastening device is provided on the back of each glove at or near to a cuff.

A pair of gloves as claimed in Claim 5, wherein the fastening device comprises a slit being provided from the cuff towards the finger sheaths with a first zone of one part of a two part fastening being provided on the outer face of the back adjacent to one side of the slit and a tab being provided on the back at the other side of the slit to overlie the first zone, the second zone to mate with the first zone being provided on the undersurface of the tab.

7. A pair of gloves as claimed in Claim 6, wherein the two part fastening is a VELCRO (RTM) fastening.

8. A pair of gloves as claimed in any one of the preceding Claims, wherein the cuff i has an elasticated membrane.

A pair of gloves as claimed in any one of the preceding Claims, wherein the shapes of the portions of the fronts and backs of the gloves to be coloured or patterned differently are determined by the visible and non-visible areas of the gloves, in use, when a correct grip of the golf club is adopted by a user.

A pair of gloves as claimed in any one of Claims 3 to 9, wherein an elongate panel of material similar in colour or pattern to the material of the dart, is provided on the back of the other glove to appear, in use, substantially parallel to the dart when a correct grip of the golf club is adopted by a user.

11.A pair of gloves as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein a vent opening is provided between each finger sheath adjacent to its junction with the rest of the glove.

12. A pair of gloves as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein each finger sheath on the back of each glove is vented by apertures.

13. A pair of gloves substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
