Abstract

A method of synthesis of carbon nanomaterial comprises the steps of: preparing a solution of a catalyst or a catalyst precursor in a supercritical fluid, or of a supercritical fluid in a catalyst or a catalyst precursor, the catalyst or catalyst precursor being capable respectively of catalysing the formation of carbon nanomaterials from a carbon source or of reacting to form a catalyst having such a capability; expanding the solution to produce particles of catalyst or catalyst precursor; and heating the catalyst or catalyst precursor particles with a carbon source to produce carbon nanomaterials.
