Abstract

A system for tracking an article, such as for determining authenticity thereof, includes a unique random code (8) on or associated with the article (6). The code can be detected and compared with information relating to the article corresponding to the code stored in a remote database (12). Data is transmitted between the detector (4) and the database to determine whether the article is authentic.
