Abstract

A bipolar element is described which is suitable for being assembled to form a filter-press electroyser for hydrochloric acid electrolysis with oxygen depolarised cathode, which is made of a single sheet of titanium or alloys thereof provided along its periphery with a perimetral gasket. Oblong projections with the longer dimension vertically oriented are obtained by pressing in the single sheet. The projections alternatively extend on the two sides of the single sheet. The projections on one side of the sheet may the identical or have different dimensions with respect to the ones of the other side and are preferably characterised by a triangular section with the acute vertex representing the most prominent part. The vertex is rounded to avoid ruptures of the material under the forming operation, but in any case it is free from appreciable planar surfaces to avoid the formation of blinded areas when the electrodes are fixed onto the projections on both sides of the sheet.
