Abstract

The invention relates to a method for detecting a number of field devices, which are connected in a device configuration, particularly in a star coupler configuration, to a central device, whereby the field devices in the device configuration can be electronically addressed by the central unit with the aid of a respective electronic address from a complete address area. According to the method, one half and a remaining half of an address query area are queried on the field devices by the central device with the aid of individual electronic inquiries. The central device is used to detect electronic responses of the field devices from half of the address query area and/or from the remaining half of the address query area. The electronic querying and the electronic detection of responses are repeated based on the responses until the switched off query area precisely contains an electronic address from the complete address area.
