Abstract

Device for swing fittings for windows, where the fittings comprise a frame-mounting (12) for fastening to a window frame, a rod (18) for fastening to a window trim and a number of intermediate arms (14, 16) between the frame-mounting and the rod arranged to swing the window out of the frame from a shut position to an open position, and a releasable locking means (20) to allow opening of the window from an airing position to the open position. The rod (18) comprises a number of longitudinal grooves (34a, 34b; 38) designed to receive an inner profile shaped correspondingly.

Description

Device for swing fittings for windows
The present invention relates to a device for swing fittings for windows, where the fittings comprise a frame- mounting for fastening to a window frame, a rod for fastening to a window trim and a number of intermediate arms between the frame-mounting and the rod, arranged to swing the window from a shut position to an open position, and a releasable locking means to make it possible to open the window from an airing position to the open position.
Fittings for windows are known. Also known are fittings that comprise an arm that is fastened to a window trim and an arm that is fastened to a window frame, and where two intermediate arms are fitted between the two aforementioned arms. Such that a system of articulated rods is thereby formed on each side of the window, which is arranged to be opened in an approximate scissors shape, and which support the window trim when this is opened. It is also known to arrange a safety catch, a so-called child-catch, between the arm that is fastened to the window frame and the lowest of the intermediate arms so that the window cannot be opened further than to an airing position. The window fittings are visible from the outside of the window, mainly the arm that is fastened to the window trim. Today, it is common to equip the arm which is fastened to the window trim with standard fittings that are permanently fastened to the arm and that can be galvanised and chrome plated, or the arm itself can be varnished in a colour that suits the colour of the window.
Disadvantages with the known solutions are that the arm must be varnished before mounting. This leads to a considerable time lag from an order coming in to the factory to delivery of the product, and it is costly. Furthermore it is easy for the varnish to be damaged during assembly of the fitting and during transportation. Furthermore the whole arm is varnished unnecessarily.
An object of the present invention is to avoid said disadvantages. Chrome plating can be standard for all fittings as they are produced. This will be a much improved production technology and the fittings can be completed before the colour is decided. The cover can be varnished in all colours at the producer of the fitting or at the producer of the windows. At the window producer, the cover can simply be varnished together with the window, for example, with the same colour. Furthermore, the cover can be mounted to the fitting from the fitting' s producer or at the producer of the windows. Covers in special or different forms and colours can be produced for different customers or for each window producer.
A preferred embodiment of the present invention is characterised in that the rod comprises a number of longitudinal grooves to receive a correspondingly designed profile .
Alternative preferred embodiments are characterised in that the longitudinal grooves can run the whole of, or parts of, the length of the rod, where the grooves can be arranged to receive a replaceable cover with a profile adapted to the profile of the rod and grooves. The longitudinal grooves can run on the corresponding sides of the rod, such as on the window frame side and the window trim side, and that one or more of the longitudinal grooves can run on each side of the outer outwardly extending section of the rod, for the whole of, or parts of, the length of the rod. The cover can be formed in an approximate U-shape, where the outer edges are bent inwards and arranged to fit into the longitudinal grooves.
Alternatively the rod can comprise a number of longitudinal grooves on the outer side of an outwardly extending section. The cover can comprise one or more inner outwardly extending sections adapted to be led into the mentioned longitudinal grooves of the rod, whereby the cover is arranged to be detachably fastened to the rod.
The invention shall now be described further with help of the enclosed figures that show preferred embodiments of the invention, in which;
Figure 1 shows a swing fitting in a closed position. Figure 2 shows a preferred embodiment of the present invention. Figure 3 shows an alternative embodiment of the invention.
As shown in figure 1, the swing fitting 10 comprises a number of arms that are articulated. A first arm, hereafter called frame-mounting 12, is fitted to the window frame. The frame-mounting 12 is in its upper and lower ends connected to a number of intermediate arms, preferably two arms 14,16, that in turn are articulately connected to an outer arm, hereafter called rod 18, which is fastened to the window trim. The swing fitting is designed so that the window can swing from a shut position to an open position, and also to a rotated position for washing of the outside of the window. Two swing fittings placed on opposite sides of the window are used.
A locking means is placed at the lower part of the frame- mounting 12. The locking means is arranged to function as a safety catch such that the window cannot be opened further than to an airing position without the locking means being released. Such safety catches are known from the state of the art and their aim and forms will not be explained further.
On its outside, the rod 18 can comprise a number of longitudinal grooves along the whole of, or parts of, the length of the rod, where the grooves are arranged to receive an exchangeable cover 30 having a profile adapted to the rod and the grooves. Figure 2 shows a preferred embodiment of the present invention, in which the rod 18 comprises a cover 30. In this embodiment, the cover 30 has an approximate U-shape with inwardly bent outer edges 32a, 32b, where the edges are designed to fit into the longitudinal grooves 34a, 34b, so that the cover is detachably secured to the rod 18. The grooves can run the whole of, or parts of, the length of the rod. The grooves can be cut out after the rod is produced, or if the rod is produced by other methods of production, such as extrusion or the like, the grooves can be made at the same time. When the cover 30 is fitted onto the rod 18, the outside of the cover will be in a plane approximately parallel to the window.
Figure 3 shows an alternative embodiment of the rod 18 and the cover 30. In this embodiment, the rod comprises an outer longitudinal groove 38, or possibly several grooves, in the outer side of the outwardly extending section 36 of the rod. The cover 30 comprises an outwardly extending section 40 which is arranged to be led into the groove 38 and, as in the preferred embodiment, detachably fixes the cover 30 to the rod 18. In this embodiment, the cover can also be formed in an approximate U-shape, but the cover can also be formed in other profiles.
Two embodiments of the cover are described here, but it must be pointed out that the form of the cover and the placing of the grooves on the rod can be varied, as can the number of grooves.
