Abstract

The invention describes a method, system, and computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions for identifying a relationship among the parties to a transaction (figure 5). The inventive method includes receiving data related to an event (501), where the data includes one or more data elements. The inventive method also includes selecting the data elements that identify the relationship among the parties to the transaction, determining whether additional data elements are required to identify the relationship among the parties to the transaction, and identifying the additional data elements (502, 503). The event may be an exchange of data between the parties over a communication network, and the data related to the event may be stored in a usage record (504). The additional data element may identify the relationship among the parties, called a contract (506).
