Definitions
- the invention relates to an electroacoustic public address unit with horn or acoustic waveguide. It relates more particularly to an improvement making it possible to adapt the dispersion characteristic of said horn or waveguide according to the configuration of the site where said sound unit is installed.
- electroacoustic horn or acoustic waveguide sound units are often used. These sound units are more particularly indicated for the reproduction of mid and high frequencies.
- An acoustic horn or waveguide is defined between a groove to which an electroacoustic transducer (i.e. a loudspeaker or a compression chamber motor) is connected and a mouth from which sound is propagates in the external environment.
- the shape of the horn or waveguide can be characterized by a function of expansion of its section between the throat and the mouth; it is the variation of said section considered along a propagation axis defined between said groove and said mouth. This function can be linear, exponential or arbitrary. It is generally increasing between the throat and the mouth.
- the three parameters mentioned above namely the surface of the throat, that of the mouth and the expansion function, determine the dispersion of the acoustic wave at the exit of the horn or waveguide. As a rule, dispersion increases with expansion. Dispersion control increases in the low frequency range with the surface of the mouth and increases in the high frequency range as the throat area decreases.
- the optimal dispersion characteristics vary.
- An important part of the sound engineer's know-how therefore consists in choosing the sound units whose dispersion characteristics are best suited. It must therefore have at its disposal a large number of sound units with very different characteristics, in particular with regard to the shapes and dimensions of the horns or acoustic waveguides.
- the invention overcomes this drawback.
- the basic idea of the invention consists in ensuring that the same sound unit can have adaptable dispersion characteristics by modifying one or more of the parameters defined above and in particular the expansion function of the horn or guide wave.
- the invention relates to an electroacoustic public address unit with horn or acoustic waveguide defined between a groove to which an electroacoustic transducer is connected and a mouth from which the sound propagates in the external environment, characterized in that it comprises at least one profiling piece constituting a removable dispersion shaper, shaped to be mounted on the inner wall of said horn or waveguide between said groove and said mouth, to modify the internal shape of said horn or guide 'wave.
- the profiling piece can be a kind of variable profile duct defining the new expansion function. It is introduced and fixed inside the horn or acoustic waveguide. According to a preferred embodiment, however, there are two profiling elements respectively adaptable on two opposite interior walls of the pavilion or waveguide.
- Such a profiling element or a set of profiling elements as defined above therefore makes it possible to change the dispersion characteristic of the sound unit.
- the latter can also be associated with several profiling elements or sets of profiling elements which can be chosen by the technician to optimize the dispersion characteristic according to the configuration of the operating site. For example, for a sound system of the type comprising a horn or waveguide having a plane of symmetry extending between the throat and the mouth, it will be possible to fix to the inner wall of the horn or waveguide two aforementioned profiling parts, symmetrical to one another and respectively adaptable on said inner wall at locations such that said plane of symmetry is kept.
- a public address unit that is to say at least capable of receiving one or more profiling parts defined above, will therefore be characterized in that said horn or waveguide comprises means for fixing at least one profiling element constituting a dispersion adapter.
- said horn or waveguide comprises means for fixing at least one profiling element constituting a dispersion adapter.
- FIG. 1 is a schematic exploded perspective view of a flag sound unit in the field of the invention and equipped with two complementary profiling parts to modify its intrinsic acoustic dispersion characteristics.
- FIG. 1 is a front view of one of the profiling parts
- Figure 5 is a perspective view similar to Figure 1 showing the two profiling parts in place inside the roof;
- the horn 13 is fixed relative to the transducer 15.
- the inner wall of the horn widens up to a mouth 19, here approximately rectangular, from which the sound propagates in the outside environment.
- a mouth 19 here approximately rectangular, from which the sound propagates in the outside environment.
- the pavilion therefore has a given expansion function, depending only on the shape and dimensions of its interior surface.
- This expansion function constitutes one of the parameters conditioning the dispersion characteristics of the horn (or of the acoustic waveguide if the electroacoustic transducer is not connected to a horn as shown).
- the public address unit is completed by at least one profiling piece 21 constituting a dispersion adapter and shaped to be mounted on the interior wall of the pavilion or waveguide, between the groove 17 and the mouth 19.
- two profiling parts 21a, 21b have been used, respectively adaptable on two opposite similar faces 25a, 25b of said inner wall of said pavilion.
- said pavilion has a plane of symmetry P extending between the throat and the mouth.
- the two profiling parts 21a, 21b are symmetrical and respectively adaptable on the two faces 25a, 25b, in locations such that said plane of symmetry P is kept.
- the plane of symmetry P of the interior wall of the pavilion as visible in FIG. 1, remains the plane of symmetry of the interior wall of the modified pavilion, when the latter comprises the two profiling parts 21a, 21b, as shown in Figure 5.
- each profiling piece has a first guide surface 27 substantially parallel to the plane of symmetry P, when the profiling piece is in place and a second guide surface 29 extending said first guide surface and defining approximately a dihedral. obtuse with it.
- said second guide surface is very slightly curved.
- each profiling piece 121a, 121b comprises a guide plane 30 inclined relative to a planar surface of the interior wall 13 of the pavilion.
- the guide plane and the flat surface meet in the vicinity of the groove 17.
- each profiling part 221a, 221b has a guide surface 32 with a curved profile comprising a groove portion 34 substantially parallel said plane of symmetry, in the immediate vicinity of the groove 17 of the pavilion and a mouth portion 36 moving away from the plane of symmetry from the groove portion.
- These two portions 34, 36 are connected to each other without a continuity solution.
- Different solutions can be envisaged for fixing the profiling pieces to the wall of the roof.
- the pavilion 13 (or waveguide) on the one hand and the or each profiling part 21a, 21b, on the other hand, comprise assembly means of the screw type nut. Consequently, holes made in the wall of the roof or in each profiling part can be provided with threaded portions or fitted with captive nuts.
- the holes in the profiling parts are here formed in small columns 40 which engage in the holes 42 in the wall of the roof. In the case where the nuts are integral with the roof, the screw heads come to rest on shoulders formed inside the holes made in the profiling parts.
- the pavilion (or the waveguide) on the one hand and / or the or each profiling piece, on the other hand comprise adhesive assembly means, for example strips double-sided adhesives.
- said pavilion (or the waveguide) on the one hand and / or the or each profiling piece, on the other hand comprise means for assembling magnetic elements.
- the pavilion is made of metal with magnetic properties (iron, steel)
- the profiling parts can be fitted with magnetic pads. The converse is possible. It is also possible to equip the roof and the profiling parts with such magnetized pads cooperating two by two, respectively.
- the positioning of the profiling pieces inside the pavilion modifies the expansion function of the latter by defining a new inner surface of the pavilion which replaces the surface original.
- This modification of the expansion function makes it possible to adapt the dispersion characteristics of the sound unit.
- any horn or wave guide sound unit defined between a groove to which an electroacoustic transducer is connected and a mouth from which sound propagates in an external environment is part of the field of the invention when said horn or waveguide linked to this transducer is provided with means making it possible to fix at least one profiling element constituting a dispersion adapter.
