Abstract

Data processing apparatus arranged to process objects in accordance with stored dependency relationships between the objects, the data processing apparatus comprising: storage means for storing at least one property of each object, and an indication of whether the property is a mandatory or an optional property of the object, and for storing definitions of dependency relationship between the objects; and processing means arranged to process the objects in accordance with the stored relationships such that an object having a dependency relationship on another object is treated as having the or each mandatory property of the other object, and as having the or each optional property of the other object if the stored definition of the relationship between the objects indicates that the property is inherited by the object, and as not having the property otherwise.
