  • This invention relates to a method and machine for the utilisation of scrap plastics material, and is particularly but not exclusively concerned with the utilisation of scrap plastics material as is currently used in packaging, such as, for example, scrap polythene in sheet form.

  • melt is used herein to refer to the viscat softening point, at which the plastic material attains a specific degree of fluidity.
  • partially melted plastics granules are deposited from the conveyor 8 onto the lower conveyor 16, to be conveyed through the compression moulding device 14.
  • substantially the whole of the compression is effected between the heated, convergent section 16a and 18a of the conveyor 14, the compression being produced as the partly melted granular material is drawn into the conveyor effecting working of the plastics material, producing a high degree of mixing and homogeneity.
  • the compressed material is then drawn through the cooling section 16b, 18b, through a final section of the conveyor, and emerges as a continuous sheet or slab 30 of plastics material, typically having a width in the order of 2 metres, and a thickness typically from 2mm to 50mm.
  • filler material which may be granite dust, brick dust, glass particles, may be introduced into the material, conveniently by being added to the material as it is drawn into the machine, at the point A or upstream thereof, ensuring that the filler material is properly dried prior to being mixed with the plastics material within the compression moulding machine.
  • a lining may be provided to the sheet 30, which may be in the form of sacking, webbing, or high quality plastic sheet, such as melamine, or the like, conveniently the material being drawn into the conveyor immediately adjacent the upper run of the conveyor belt 16, to ensure that the plastic material which is formed by the compression moulding machine is firmly adhered to the substrate sheet.
  • the use of the preferred embodiment is feasible in the moulding of sheet material up to perhaps 50mm in thickness, in practice moulding material to this or greater thickness presents difficulties in cooling and maintaining rigidity, and thus the invention which is the preferced embodiment of this invention may be utilised in a modified form, shown in Figure 2, in which similar numerals have been used, increased by 100, to denote parts similar to those described in the first embodiment.

Abstract

L'invention concerne des déchets en matière plastique fournis de manière pratique sous forme granulaire qui sont amenés à une machine. Cette dernière comprend un convoyeur allongé (8) sur lequel un moyen de chauffage par chaleur rayonnante est prévu, pour faire fondre partiellement les granules d'un côté seulement, le côté opposé des granules restant sensiblement non fondus. En aval du convoyeur (8) se trouve un dispositif de moulage par compression (14) qui comprend un convoyeur à bande inférieur (16) et un convoyeur à bande supérieur (18) qui convergent vers le sens opposé au convoyeur (8). Lors de l'utilisation de la machine pour mettre en oeuvre ce procédé, des granules de déchets plastiques sont partiellement fondus sur le convoyeur (8) et déposés sur le convoyeur inférieur (16) et transportés dans le dispositif de moulage par compression (14) pour former les déchets plastiques en feuilles ou en plaques, avec une épaisseur comprise entre 2 et 15 mm. Un revêtement (30) peut être placé sur la feuille, sous forme d'une feuille de plastique de haute qualité, d'ensachage ou en bande.
