Description
METHOD FOR IDENTIFYING SERVER AND PAGE IN URL LINKS
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a method for identifying server and page in Uniform Resource Locator (URL) links in advance for the establishment of the increased efficiency of Internet navigation by a user in wired or wireless Internet.
Background Art
Conventionally, when accessing to an enormous number of web sites through a variety of search sites during search of Internet, failure and unavailability in accessing the desired page often occur due to the absence of such the web page. Thus, waste of time, unnecessarily increased traffic in network and increased cost in communication occur. In case that the link with a URL leads to an unexpected link with a different URL, a user should quit the access to the link and return to the previous display. In this case, the overall or part of the redirected page transferred via network can be restored in the cache memory area of the user's computer. This restored page in the cache memory area results in meaningless file.
Further, if a user wishes to download a site but has no knowledge about the most suitable site in various mirror sites represented in display, the user voluntarily selects a certain site to download the most suitable site, and thus a chance capable of saving time and cost is not activated.
Also, network operators have a problem in that they operate other programs and manually read respective URL links to obtain the server type of a URL link, a response rate and an IP number.
Disclosure of the Invention
To resolve the above problems in the conventional art, it is, therefore, one object of the present invention to provide a method for identifying server and page of URL links in advance in which various kinds of state information on URL links are previewed within a range of minimizing a network load and user computing load, so that a user is lead to the use of Internet with ease through a variety of interfaces and at the same time the efficiency
of the Internet surfing is maximized.
To achieve the above object, according to the present invention, a method for identifying a server and page in URL links in advance, the method comprising an URL link around moving step (S300) in which a user moves a pointer of an input device to a position around the URL link through an application program (PI, P2) executed using an internet access means; a block area setting step (S200) in which the user captures a block area on a content through the application program using the pointer of the input device moved at the URL link around moving step (S300); an URL link information displaying step (S500) which searches an URL link indicated by the pointer of the input device moved at the URL link around moving step and displays the information of the searched URL link in a format set by the user or displaying information of an URL link belonging to the set block area depending on the user's environment setting when the block area is set among the contents through the application program (PI, P2); an URL link connecting step (S400) which manually accesses an accessible URL link using the information of the URL link displayed at the URL link information displaying step (S500) or automatically accesses an optimum URL link; and a web page arriving step (S100) which a new web page connected by the URL link connecting step (S400) arrives.

Best Mode For Carrying Out the Invention The preferred embodiment of the present invention will now be described in detail while referring to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is a flowchart for the operating flow performed after receiving a web page from a certain application program including a web browser according to the present invention, Fig. 2 is a flowchart for the operating flow of setting a predetermined region in the application program including the web browser by using input devices to request state information on a link with a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) according to the present invention, Fig. 3 is a flowchart for the operating flow when a pointer (for example, mouse pointer) of input device is disposed on a certain link with a URL according to the present invention, Fig. 4 is a flowchart for the operating flow when selecting the link with the URL to request an access to it according to the present invention, and Fig. 5 is a flowchart for the operating flow representing the information of the link with the URL to a user according to the present invention. In addition, Figs. 6 and 7 are schematic diagrams representing the operating environment and the operating flow of the present invention. As is shown in Figs. 6 and 7, hardware and application program used in the present invention will now be described.
The present invention includes Internet-friendly equipments such as a general computer C2 as a PC server, a portable computer Cl as a laptop computer, a notebook computer and a palm-top computer, a mobile unit C3 as an Internet cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA) and an IMT2000 (International Mobile Telecommunications for 2000) terminal, and an Internet accessible device C4 as an Internet-functional television receiver (TV). The application program includes the
described-above computers, web browsers operated in the equipments and other application programs.
Internet users Cl, C2, C3 and C4 who are connected to a wired or wireless Internet Nl, N2 are accessed to an enormous type of servers SI, S2, S3, S4 and various type of pages (files) therein using the web browser and the application program. These servers and pages are accessed through a URL (or URN: now referred to as URL) link. The Internet users press the keyboard 11 or other input device 12, 13 such as a mouse for the connection to such a URL link. In this process, various types of error messages can occur. For example, a message representing that the page is not exist, a message representing that this page permits an access to only authorized client, an unidentified message, or movement to the undesired site.
Therefore, according to the present invention, as a user moves a marker (that is, mouse pointer) of the input device into a connection position of an URL link on a specific application program including a web browser without a selection of a specific URL link using the input device (S300), a system of the present system searches a corresponding link information stored in the application program and displays the searched information, for instance, whether or not a server connection being possible, whether an access to a link page being possible, a server's type, a response speed, a size of page, whether or not there being a recent update, a forecast time of download ending, a URL link which is being redirected, visiting times, a recent visiting date, a page title as necessary, a message which is being transferred by server, etc., in the form designated by the user (S500). Thus, according to the present invention, since the user can be protected from accessing to a meaningless URL link for user's ground, a rapid and efficient use of Internet can be achieved. As the user selects a connected URL link with reference to functions of this program of the present invention (S400), an associated new web page is displayed (S100), the results of the access with respect to the requested URL link (for example, the number of visits, date of connection) are stored in the memory of the computer, and the URL links within contents of the received web sites are arranged by server, thereby the state of information of the respective URL link can be caught using multi-process (thread) technique. The technique is performed by a method for requesting only header information, not the contents of the respective URL links, and receiving the requested results, thereby
minimizing the load of network and system. Of course, if necessary,. entirety or part of the contents of the URL links, and any file in the server may be retrieved.
Further, if the user sets a block area in the contents of the application program using the input device (S200), then the information of the URL links are displayed on a screen depending on user's environment setting (S500), which helps for the user to manually select his or her desired information or to automatically connect to the most appropriate URL link. This useful invention in advance prevents the Internet user from erroneously accessing to a undesired URL link through pictorial representation or audio (sound), thus all kinds of useful information can easily perceived and the efficiency of Internet navigation can be maximized.
Operation of the above constituted invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 shows a series of procedures which a desired page is received through the network when an Internet user requests an access to a URL link using an application program including a web browser,
First, after the Internet user requests an access to a URL link using a specific application program including a web browser, the application program receives a corresponding content in the requested URL link from a server through a network. The content is captured using a method such as Packet Filtering, Winsock Hooking, Message Hooking, Browser Helper Object, DDL, OLE, DCOM, Active X, Subclassing, Scripting and the like. Of course, application programs (dedicated browser such as Chollian, -Hitel, Netsgo and the like), which use web browser and web browser control, such as Explorer, Netscape, Opera, Power Browser and the like have their own functions to analyze the content. The program or method of the present invention includes all of these known programs (S101).
After that, sets of URL links are extracted by analyzing the captured contents described above (S102).
The extracted sets of the URL links are searched from table Tl of URL links in the present program, and then only uncertified URL links are extracted, which are not examined whether the URL link is accessible or not. In this point, the uncertified URL link is not the case that a specific URL link is not accessible, but the case that the specific URL link has not been intended to access or the case that an access time has been expired or the
user cancelled intentionally his or her access in the course of accessing (S103).
The uncertified URL links are grouped for classification, sorted and arranged based on the respective server (SI 04).
Then, it is simultaneously examined whether the respective server is accessible or not through the multi-processing (threading) method. Upon identifying a response from server through the network, if there is no reply when the time specified by the user has been expired, the accessing is quit in order to solve the problem of waiting for a long time
(S105).
The URL links within the accessible servers are simultaneously examined by multi-processing (threading) method. Of course, the servers and links are simultaneously examined when the number of servers to be examined in step 105 is less than that of simultaneous processes (threading). Of course, in this event, the function for the time expiration is also designated. At this stage, since the request to the URL link is performed for only header information, a network load and a user computer's load are minimized (S106).
Then, the received information for the respective server and link are stored in the URL link table T1 (S 107).
Fig. 2 is a flowchart for the operating flow of setting a predetermined region in the application program including the web browser by using input devices to request state information on a link with a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) according to the present invention.
When the user specifies a specific block area in a specific application program using an input device and requests state information for the URL links, the block area is captured using a method such as Message Hooking, DCOM, Scripting, Subclassing, ClipBoard, DDE, OLE, Active X, Browser Helper, Object. Of course, application programs (dedicated browser such as Chollian, Hitel, Netsgo and the like), which use web browser and web browser control, such as Explorer Netscape, Opera, Power Browser and the like have their own functions to analyze the content. The program or method of the present invention includes all of these known programs (S201). Then, the sets of URL links are extracted by analyzing the content in the block area (S202).
In step 203, it is determined whether to refer the information of links in URL link
table Tl or to newly examine all of the selected URL links according to the specified environment by the user (S203).
Only the unidentified URL links are extracted except the URL links identified in the link table Tl from the sets of the extracted URL links (S204). Then, in response to the determination in step 203, all of the extracted URL links
(step 202) or the unidentified URL links (step 204) are sorted based on the respective server, and then arranged in URL links in the respective server (S205).
Then, it is simultaneously examined whether the respective server is accessible or not through the multi-processing (threading) method. Upon identifying a response from server through the network, if there is no reply when the time specified by the user has been expired, the method makes to quit the accessing in order to solve the problem of waiting for a long time (S206).
The URL links in the accessible servers are simultaneously examined by multi-processing (threading) method. Of course, the servers and links are simultaneously examined when the number of servers to be examined in step 206. Of course, in this event, the function for the time expiration is also specified. For the URL links in the inaccessible servers, the method makes to omit a test of whether the URL links are accessible, and for the URL links in the timed-out servers, the method makes to omit a test of whether the URL links are accessible can be performed according to the setting by the user (S207). Then, the method makes to store the received information for the respective server and link in the URL link table Tl (S208). In addition, the method makes to determine whether the user wants to represent them on the display or connect automatically to them (S209).
In the case that the user has been specified to be represented on the display, the method makes to represent the result information of the URL links selected in pop-up window on the display so that the user can manually select his or her desired link (S210).
Then, the method makes to search the optimal URL link which is suitable for a criteria specified by the user. For example, the criteria includes a URL link which has the highest response rate, a URL link which has the maximal or minimal size to be received, a URL link which has most recent or old date of receipt and the like (S211).
Fig. 3 is a flowchart for the operating flow which, when a pointer (for example, mouse pointer) of input device is located adjacent to a certain link with a URL, the method
according to the present invention makes to detect automatically the situation and represent information of an additional helpful description on the display.
As shown in Fig. 3, when the pointer of the input device (for example, mouse pointer) is located adjacent to a specific URL link in a specific application program including a web browser by user, the method recognizes automatically the situation, and then search of the link table Tl in the program is performed. The automatic recognition method includes hooking the current URL link in the state bar, Browser Helper Object, DDE, OLE, DCOM, Active X, Subclassing, Scripting and the like. Object. Of course, application programs (dedicated browser such as Chollian, Hitel, Netsgo and the like), which use web browser and web browser control, such as Explorer Netscape, Opera, Power Browser and the like have their own functions to analyze the content. The program or method of the present invention includes all of these known programs (S301).
Then, it is determined whether existing in the current URL link table Tl (S302).
If the current URL link exists in the link table Tl, the method makes to determine whether the result of it is a certified URL link or a uncertified URL link (S303).
When it exists in the link table Tl and the result of it is the certified link, the associated information is represented on the display. If the content of it is accessible, information are represented including a message indicating a permission of access, type of server, response rate, size of page, date of update, number of visits, presence or absence of redirection, link information of redirection, date of most recent visit and the like. If inaccessible, information such as a message indicating no permission of access are represented (S304).
Then, it is determined whether the user has set the environment for an automatic examination or not when it is an unidentified URL link or a new URL link (S305). If the user has specified the automatic examination, the method makes to access the associated URL link. Of course, in this case, the method makes to request only header information of the associated URL link. Further, for a particular URL link (server or URL link registered in the inventive program), the method makes to receive the title of the associated URL link or the current of the server message file fixed at a position in the associated site server (S306).
Then, the received information for the URL link obtained in step 306 is stored in the URL link table Tl (S307).
Fig. 4 is a flowchart for the operating flow performed when the user actually requests an access in a specific application program including a web browser according to the present invention.
As shown in Fig. 4, the user actually requests an access in a specific application program including a web browser (S401).
Then, it is determined whether there are multi-threads under an examination for the current URL links (S402). After that, it is determined whether a forced quit by the user is set or the number of the current thread falls within the maximum number of the thread set by the user (S403). When the user sets the forced quit or the number of the current thread exceeds the maximum number of the thread, the method makes to select threads to be quitted, quit forcibly them, and updates the related information into link table Tl (S404).
Then, the results of the current requested URL link are captured using a method including Packet Filtering, Winsock Hooking, Message Hooking, Browser Helper Object, DDE, OLE, DCOM, Active X, Subclassing, Scripting and the like (S405).
Then, the received information for the link obtained in step 405 is stored in the link table Tl. The link table Tl includes information having a message indicating a permission or a rejection of access to server, type of server, size of page, title, message from server, and response rate as well as number of visits and date of the most recent visit and the like. The subsequent process is the same as the process as shown in Fig. 1 (S406). Fig. 5 shows the processing for providing different representations on the display depending on how the Internet user sets a help function on the information of the URL link. One or more users may be specified.
As shown in Fig. 5, it is determined whether specifying in the form of pop-up window (S501).
When the pop-up window is represented on the display, various information in it is represented in a audible or visible representation, including information having a message indicating a permission or a rejection of access to server, type of server, size of page, title, message from server, and response rate as well as number of visits and date of the most recent visit and the like. The window may position at a location of top, bottom, left, or right of the basic window in the desk-top computer, or may move depending on the movement of the pointer of the input device (S502).
In addition, it is determined whether specifying in the form of tray icon (S503). The tray icon can have a variety of representation including different shapes, variable colors, appearance or absence of additional description region beyond the icon and the like (S504). Further, the method makes to determine whether specifying to represent in the content (S505). If so, the method makes to represent the content of the application program in a location of the URL link in the form being perceived by the user (S506).
Then, it is determined whether specifying to represent in state bar of title bar (S507). If so, various types of state information are represented in the title bar on the top or in the state bar on the bottom (S508).
Then, it is determined whether specifying audio (sound/acoustic) guidance (S509). If so, since various types of audio or acoustic sound can be output, the user easily recognizes the information on the links (S510).
Then, it is determined whether specifying to convert the shape of the icon (S511). Therefore, various types of pointers of the input device (for example, mouse pointer) may be available (S512).
