Abstract

The present invention relates to a container assembled from a blank and having at least one compartment. The container comprises a base panel (12), side and (14a-d), foldable flap panels (18a-d) foldably adjoined to the perimeter of the base panel to fully encircle the base panel. The foldable flap panels foldably adjoin adjacent side panels to one another, and are folded during construction of the container to bring the adjacent side panels together. The container also comprises at least one lid panel (16) used to fashion a lid for the container and one or more sealing portions (20, 22) associated with the lid panel and side panels for sealing at least a part of the lid panels to at least a part of the side panels.

Claims

AMENDED CLAIMS[received by the International Bureau on 19 June 2002 (19.06.02); original claims 1-11 replaced by amended claims 1-8 (3 pages)]
1. A container assembled from a blank and having at least one compartment, comprising: a base panel; side and foldable flap panels foldably adjoined to the perimeter of the base panel to fully encircle the base panel wherein the foldable flap panels foldably adjoin adjacent side panels to one another, and are folded during construction of the container to bring the adjacent side panels together; at least two lid panels used to fashion a lid for the container; each lid panel including a handle panel used to fashion a handle for the container, wherein each handle panel is foldably adjoined to the corresponding lid panel along an edge opposite to the side panel to which the lid panel is joined, and is foldable between an upstanding configuration in which it can be gripped and a retracted configuration in which it lies flat against a lid panel; and a plurality of sealing portions associated with the lid panels and side panels for sealing at least a part of the lid panels to at least a part of the side panels, wherein the sealing portions comprise at least a flange projecting outwardly of the container from an edge of each lid panel and a co-operating flange projecting from an edge of each side panel, and sealing means which seal the respective flanges together.
2. A container as claimed in claim 1, which includes a second compartment comprising: a second base panel, a second set of side and foldable flap panels foldably adjoined to the perimeter of the second base panel to fully encircle the second base panel wherein the 13
second set of foldable flap panels foldably adjoin adjacent side panels to one another, and are folded during construction of the second compartment to bring the adjacent second set of side panels together; wherein a side panel of the second set of side panels adjoins a side panel of the first set of side panels.
3. A container according to claim 2, wherein the container is stackable on top of another similar container such that the handle panel of the bottom container, when in an upstanding con iguration, is positioned between the first and second compartments of the top container.
4. A container according to any one of the preceding claims, which includes one or more sub-compartments that can be constructed from the same blank, and occupying at least a portion of the or each compartment when the container is constructed.

A container according to claim 4, wherein each sub-compartment comprises: a base panel; side and foldable flap panels foldably adjoined to the perimeter of the base panel to fully encircle the base panel wherein the foldable flap panels foldably adjoin adjacent side panels to one another, and are folded - during construction of the container to bring the adjacent side panels together; wherein a side panel of the sub-compartment adjoins the side panel of at least one compartment of the container.
6. A container according to any one of the preceding claims, including intermediate sealing portions located between separate compartments or between a compartment and a sub-compartment of the container for sealing at least a part of the lid panels to at least 14
a part of the side panels.
7. A container according to claim 6, wherein sealing of all of the sealing portions and the intermediate sealing portions results in the container being sealed to be substantially airtight.
8. A container according to any one of the preceding claims, that is formed of plastic-based material or paper-based material.
