Abstract

The present invention is a method of separating a desired component (e.g., a biomolecule such as a recombinant protein) from a mixture such as an unclarified feedstock. In a first step, the mixture is solubilized in an aqueous urea solution to form a sample solution. In a second step, the sample solution is passed upwards through a bed of resin, thereby binding the desired component to the resin and separating the desired component from the mixture. The sample solution comprises a sufficiently high concentration of urea to reduce fouling of resin when the sample solution is passed through the resin.
