Abstract

The present invention thus provides a simple, fiber-coupled, low-loss, and wavelength-selective semiconductor components that could be cascaded in series with minimal loss and connected in a simple manner. It comprises an optical fiber having a core (30) and a cladding (20) that supports cladding mode propagation, a long period grating (40) for coupling light between the core and the cladding and a semiconductor element (50) attached at a side of the fiber such that the element has optical coupling with the cladding mode.
