Abstract

Procédé de codage de données vidéo et d'images transformées par ondelettes, selon lequel les données vidéo et d'images comprennent des coefficients d'ondelette d'une pluralité de sous-bandes. Ledit procédé comporte la réunion d'au moins deux coefficients d'ondelette pour former un groupe (580, 890) de coefficients d'ondelettes, ledit groupe (580, 590) de coefficients d'ondelettes contenant des coefficients d'ondelette provenant d'au moins deux sous-bandes différentes. Ledit procédé comporte en outre la comparaison des coefficients d'ondelette du groupe (580, 590) avec une valeur de seuil prédéterminée pour obtenir un rapport effectif de chacun des coefficients d'ondelette à la valeur de seuil prédéterminée. Si le rapport effectif d'au moins un coefficient d'ondelette est égal à un rapport prédéterminé à la valeur de seuil prédéterminée, le rapport effectif de chaque coefficient d'ondelette du groupe (580, 590) à la valeur de seuil est mis en mémoire pour obtenir un mot significatif (600) pour le groupe (580, 590) de coefficients d'ondelette. Si le rapport effectif de chaque coefficient d'ondelette n'est pas identique au rapport prédéterminé, le groupe (580, 590) est omis.
