Abstract

On ajoute une extension de données robustes à un système de transmission de télévision numérique 8VSB standard en codant des paquets de données hautement prioritaires dans un codeur de treillis 1/2. Les paquets codés en treillis 1/2 de données hautement prioritaires sont multiplexés avec des paquets de données normaux et ils sont entrés dans le service de données normales d'un système 8VSB, qui contient un codeur de treillis 2/3. Le codage en treillis combinés se solde par un codage en treillis 1/3 pour des paquets de données robustes et un codage en treillis 2/3 pour des paquets normaux. Le codage en treillis 1/3 produit une robustesse pratiquement équivalente à celle d'un signal 2VSB, tandis qu'il conserve les caractéristiques de compatibilité précédente d'un signal 8VSB. Quatre spécifications existantes pour la compatibilité précédente à des émetteurs et récepteurs conformes à la norme ATSC sont atteintes : 1) le module du symbole établi pour une transmission de données robustes est le même que pour un signal 8VSB, 2) la compatibilité à des codeurs et décodeurs de treillis existants est maintenue, 3) des octets de parité de Reed Solomon sont transmis comme des données normales, de telle manière que des récepteurs existants ne signalent pas de paquets de données robustes comme des erreurs de parité de Reed Solomon, et 4) la compatibilité MPEG est maintenue au moyen de la garantie que des paquets de données robustes n'apparaîtront pas comme des faux paquets MPEG qui pourraient sinon déstabiliser le décodeur MPEG existant.
