Abstract
Method for generating a virtual unified product content repository consisting of a plurality of different databases, each of which presented in a specific original schema, located at different sites that are connected through a data network. Selected sites which are access points to the data network are determined, such that each site is a source site of product content, from which a data package, selected from the product content, is sent to a remotely located destination site. At each source site that has permission to update the local product content stored therein, a request for a data package is received from the remotely located site. Predetermined rules for extracting and replicating data packages are activated and a generic schema for exchanging different types of data packages between remotely located sites is generated. Whenever a transfer of a data package from site to site is required, the original schema of the data package to be sent from the source site is converted on-the-fly into the generic schema. Both the original schema and the generic schema of the data package are stored and the data package is forwarded from the source site to the remotely located site, in the generic schema and over the data network, according to the predetermined rules. The data package in the generic schema, from the source site, is received at the remotely located site, which is the destination for the data package. The data package is converted from the generic schema into the local schema of the destination. Both the local and generic schema of the data package are stored and the data package represented in the local schema is affiliated to the local database of the destination.
