Abstract
Description
DISPOSITIF DE DÉCONTAMINATION DES SONDES MÉDICALES ENDOCAVITAIRES DEVICE FOR DECONTAMINATION OF ENDOCAVITY MEDICAL PROBES
The present invention relates to a device for decontamination of endocavitary medical probes and catheters.
It is intended to ensure rigorous disinfection of endocavity catheters and catheters of all types, and especially urinary catheters.
The majority of the risk of nosocomial disease is represented by urinary catheterization procedures. This type of contamination comes either from the extracted medium itself or from an air vent at the level and at the time of connection of the bag.
This pathogenic risk clearly identified by public health authorities represents a colossal financial burden and generates an image of health far from the strategy of implementing a quality assurance system in hospitals. The pathologies encountered, mainly urinary tract infection, are consecutive to contamination of bacteria such as candidae albicans and echiriechia coli. The contamination of a patient is done either at the time of the introduction of the probe, or by rupture of the integrity of the positioning of the probe in the urethra, or by retro contamination of the probe by the retention pocket of the 'urine.
Currently, in the field of invasive urinary catheterization, two alternatives are available as potential solutions: probe the patient as little as possible because strict control of the act is not guaranteed (human factor), or provide that research conducted on biocidal probes will give satisfaction.
The device according to the present invention aims to remedy this state of affairs. It in fact makes it possible to guarantee the non-proliferation of a pathogenic microorganism by retro contamination inside a urinary probe or other invasive probe for extraction, from the retention pocket towards the patient.
The decontamination system, adaptable to any type of probe or catheter, can be installed permanently, whatever the duration of the probe. It also allows the mobility of respondents. The system relies on the use of light in its biocidal wavelengths through a material, so as to use this small portion of surface energy transmitted to the internal periphery of the probe to be decontaminated to generate a zone of security. It consists of an electrical power supply generating current pulses, an electrical connection to the lamp and an elliptical section enclosure forming a clamp and containing the lamp placed at one of the focal points of the ellipse, this clamp from surrounding the probe or catheter located at the other focal point in a place of its length in accordance with its use.
In the appended schematic drawings, given by way of nonlimiting example of one of the embodiments of the subject of the invention: FIG. 1 shows in axonometric perspective, the decontamination device connected to its supply unit and mounted on a urinary catheter, Figure 2 is a cross section along the arrows F1 of Figure 1 showing the device in the closed position and Figure 3 shows under the same conditions the device in the open position.
The device, FIGS. 1 to 3, consists of an enclosure 1 formed by a portion of tube of elliptical section closed at its two ends by side walls 2 that are flat.
At one of the focal points of the ellipse, inside the enclosure 1, a lamp 3 of the "flash" type is arranged and, at the other focus, is a transparent sleeve 4 passing through the enclosure between the two side walls 2 and determined to allow the passage of the probe 5 or of the catheter to be decontaminated.
La face interne 9 de la paroi tubulaire est réfléchissante, et sa forme elliptique assure un éclairement uniforme sur l'enveloppe de la sonde 5.The enclosure 1 is formed by two parts 6, 7 pivoting around a hinge 8 so as to constitute a clamp which can open at right angles to the sleeve 4, itself formed by two semi-cylindrical portions 4 ′, 4 " , to insert the probe 5. The internal face 9 of the tubular wall is reflective, and its elliptical shape ensures uniform illumination on the envelope of the probe 5.
The lamp 3 is connected by a flexible multiconductor cable 10 to a portable power and control box 11 ensuring the shaping of the light pulses.
The basic photonic technology used is designed to generate short-term flashes containing 5 to 20% of ultraviolet (UV) rays from 200 nm, with an energy density high enough to pass through the thickness of the material (plastic, silicone, etc) of the envelope of the probe 5 and of bringing to its internal surface the biocidal energy required to generate a disinfected area, preventing micro-biological proliferation towards the patient. The length of this zone is determined by several factors, such as: the highest rate of proliferation of all the targeted micro biological targets, the length (and therefore the weight) of the forceps containing the lamp 3, the repetition frequency flashes guaranteeing that the disinfected area is not crossed between two intervals.
Les caractéristiques du dispositif selon l'invention présentent de nombreux avantages :The characteristics of the device according to the invention have numerous advantages:
The fact that the enclosure 1 is removable makes it possible to dissociate it from the probe 5 which can be disposable. - The process being photonic it is the only one able to offer a reliable answer and offering an important security to the major nosocomial problem represented by the urinary probes, the only solution to fight this vector of infection being to date an impregnation of the probe by a biocidal chemical.
The positioning of the various constituent elements gives the object of the invention a maximum of useful effects which had not, to date, been obtained by similar devices.
