Abstract

Tripolyphosphates of formula (I) MaHbP3O10 (I), wherein M is NR4, NR3H, NR2H2, NRH3, NH4, Li, Na, K, Mg, Sr, Mn, Zr, Sn, Cu, Ag, Ce, Y, La, Zn, Ti, V, Bi, Ni or Co, and R is C1-C8alkyl, C1-C8alkoxy, or phenyl unsubstituted or mono- to tri-substituted by C1-C8alkyl, C1-C4alkoxy or by halogen, and wherein a (valency of M) + B = 5, and a = 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 and B = 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, and mixtures thereof, further tripolyphosphates that have been after treated with one or more bases, processes for the preparation thereof, their use as anti-corrosion agents and as biocides (anti-microbial agents) and, where applicable, as encrustation-inhibiting agents.
