Abstract

A method and system for anonymous financial transactions. A trusted intermediary (30) receives identifier information from a buyer (10) and creates alias information based on the identifier. The buyer then conducts a transaction with a seller (20) using the alias information.

9- The method of claim 1, further including providing an anonymous connection between the buyer and the seller.
10. A trusted intermediary for allowing a buyer to anonymously conduct a transaction with a seller, comprising: a communications interface for receiving identification information from the buyer and providing alias information corresponding to the identification information in response; a database configured to delete stored data upon command from the buyer, and a control unit for controlling the communications interface and the database.

A method for conducting an anonymous transaction between a buyer and a seller, comprising: receiving, from a buyer, identification information for the buyer, the identification information including a ship-to address for delivery of goods, services or monetary instruments purchased in an anonymous transaction; with a seller; providing alias information for use in the anonymous transaction, such that the alias information corresponds to the identification information received from the buyer but does not identify the buyer to the seller; receiving a request for the delivery information from a carrier responsible for delivery of the goods, services or monetary instruments purchased in the anonymous transaction to the buyer, the request including at least a portion of the alias information sufficient to determine the ship-to address corresponding to the alias information; and in response to the request for the delivery information, providing the delivery information to the carrier.
12. The method of claim 11, wherein the alias information is provided to the seller on behalf of the buyer.
13. The method of claim 11, wherein the alias information is provided to the buyer for submission to the seller.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein the alias information includes alias credit data corresponding to credit used by the buyer in the anonymous transaction.
15. The method of claim 14, further including issuing the credit to the buyer tor use in the anonymous transaction.
16. The method of claim 15, further including: receiving a request from the seller to authorize a charge on the credit, and transmitting an authorization to make the charge on the credit to the seller.
17. The method of claim 16, wherein the request includes at least a second portion of the alias information sufficient to determine the identification information to the alias information.
18. The method of claim 17, wherein the at least a second portion of the alias information is the alias credit data.
19. The method of claim 16, wherein the request from the seller to authorize a charge on the credit is conveyed from the seller through an acquiring bank; and the authorization to make the charge on the credit is transmitted to the seller through the acquiring bank.
20. The method of claim 19, wherein the request includes at least a second portion of the alias information sufficient to determine the identification information to the alias information.
21- The method of claim 20, wherein the al least a second portion of the alias information is the alias credit data.
22. The method of claim 1 , wherein the request from the seller to authorize a charge on the credit is further conveyed from the seller through an authorization network; and
25 the authorization to make the charge on the credit is further transmitted to the seller through the authorization network.
23. The method of claim 22, wherein the request includes at least a second portion of the alias information sufficient to determine the identification information to the alias information.
24. The method of claim 23, wherein the at least a second portion of the alias information is the alias credit data.
25. The method of claim 1 , further including having the credit issued by an issuing bank, and arranging for the buyer to use the credit in the anonymous transaction.
26. The method of claim 25, wherein the issuing bank issues the credit to a trusted intermediary for use by the buyer.
27. The method of claim 26, further including: receiving a request from the seller to authorize a charge on the credit, and trans itting an authorization to make the charge on the credit to the seller.
28. The method of claim 27, wherein the request includes at least a second portion of the alias information sufficient to determine the identification information to the alias information.
29. The method of claim 28, wherein the at least a second portion of the alias information is the alias credit data,
30. The method of claim 27, wherein the request from the seller to authorize a charge on the credit is conveyed from the seller through the issuing bank; and the authorization to make the charge on the credit is transmitted to the seller through the issuing bank.

31. The method of claim 30, wherein the request includes at least a second portion of the alias information sufficient to determine the identification information to the alias information.
32. The method of claim 31, wherein the at least a second portion of the alias information is the alias credit data-
33. The method of claim 30, wherein the request from the seller to authorize a charge on the credit is conveyed from the seller through an acquiring bank; and the authorization to make the charge on the credit is transmitted to the seller through the acquiring bank.
34. The method of claim 33, wherein the request includes at least a second portion of the alias information sufficient to determine the identification information to the alias information.
35. The method of claim 34, wherein the at least a second portion of the alias information is the alias credit data.
36. The method of claim 33, wherein the request from the seller to authorize a charge on the credit is further conveyed from the seller ihrough an authorization network; and the authorization to make the charge on the credit is further transmitted to the seller through the authorization network.
37. The method of claim 36, wherein the request includes at least a second portion of the alias information sufficient to determine the identification information to the alias information.
38. The method of claim 37, wherein the at least a second portion of the alias information is the alias credit data.
39. The method of claim 33, further including
27 transmitting a request to a second issuing bank for authorization to make a second charge on second credit, which second credit is issued to the user; receiving authorization from the second issuing bank to make the second charge to the second credit.
40. The method of claim 39, wherein: the request to authorize a second charge on the second credit is conveyed through the authorization network; and the authorization to make the second charge on the second credit is received through the authorization network.
41. The method of claim 25, wherein the issuing bank issues the credit to the buyer.
42. The method of claim 41, further including: receiving a request from the seller to authorize a charge on the credit, and transmitting an authorization to make the charge on the credit to the seller.
43- The method of claim 42, wherein the request includes at least a second portion of the alias information sufficient to determine the identification information to the alias information.
44. The method of claim 43, wherein the at least a second portion of the alias information is the alias credit data.
45. The method of claim 42, wherein the request from the seller to authorize a charge on the credit is conveyed from the seller through the issuing bank; and the authorization to make the charge on the credit is transmitted to the seller through the issuing bank,
46. The method of claim 45, wherein the request includes at least a second portion of the alias information sufficient to determine the identification information to the alias information.

47. The method of claim 46, wherein the at least a second portion of the alias information is the alias credit data.
48. The method of claim 45, wherein the request from the seller to authorize a charge on the credit is conveyed from the seller through an acquiring bank; and the authorization to make the charge on the credit is transmitted lo the seller through the acquiring bank.
49. The method of claim 48, wherein the request includes at least a second portion of the alias information sufficient lo determine the identification information to the alias information.
50. The method of claim 49, wherein the at least a second portion of the alias information is the alias credit data.
51. The method of claim 48, wherein the request from the seller to authorize a charge on the credit is further conveyed from the seller through an authorization network; and the authorization to make the charge on the credit is further transmitted to the seller through the authorization network.
52. The method of claim 51, wherein the request includes at least a second portion of the alias information sufficient to determine the identification information to the alias information.
53. The method of claim 52, wherein the at least a second portion of the alias information is the alias credit data.
54. The method of claim 11, further including providing an anonymous connection between the buyer and the seller.

55. The method of claim 54, further including conveying an anonymous payment instrument from the buyer to the seller,

A method of delivering goods, services or monetary instruments for a buyer in an anonymous transaction, comprising: receiving at least a portion of alias information from a seller of the goods, services or monetary instruments; transmitting the at least a portion of alias informalion to a trusted intermediary; in response to t-ransmitting the at least a portion of alias information to the trusted intermediary, receiving a ship-to address for delivery of the information from a seller of the goods, services or monetary instruments; and delivering the goods, services or monetary instruments to the ship to address.
57. The method of delivering goods recited in claim 56, wherein the al least a portion of alias information includes an alias name and an alias address.
58. The method of delivering goods recited in claim 56, wherein the at least a portion of alias information includes a number corresponding to the ship-to address.
59. A trusted intermediary for allowing a buyer to anonymously conduct a transaction with a seller, comprising: a communications interface for receiving identification information from the buyer and providing alias information corresponding to the identification information in response; a database configured to delete stored data upon command from the buyer, and a control unit for controlling the communications interface and the database.

In response to the International Search Report mailed on 1 November 2001 , and pursuant to Article 19(1) and Rule 46.1 , Applicant hereby amends the claims of the above- identified international patent application. This Amendment includes eight (8) substitute sheets providing new claims and a renumbered page for the Abstract of the application.
