Definitions
- the present invention relates to a multiplier clamp comprising a fixed arm, one end portion of which is capable of carrying a fixed jaw, a mobile actuating arm, a mobile support arm, articulated relative to the fixed arm and capable of carrying a jaw. mobile, and reduction means arranged between the fixed arm and the actuating arm.
- fixed arm is used for the sake of simplification. It should be understood that this concept is relative, the clamp being intended to be manipulated manually.
- Document FR 2 736 572 shows a vise grip in which the mobile support arm is articulated on the fixed arm, while the mobile actuation arm is connected to this fixed arm by a connecting rod and is articulated on the mobile support arm . Since it is a vise grip, one of the articulation points of the connecting rod is adjustable to determine the spacing between the jaws in the clamped position of the grip.
- This toggle system allows correct reduction for certain applications. However, it is desirable to be able to further increase the reduction ratio, in order to increase the clamping capacity of the clamp, while maintaining an amplitude of opening of the movable actuating arm relative to the fixed arm allowing the clamp to be manipulated with one hand.
- Document DE 1 300 478 shows a clamp of the aforementioned type, in which the movable actuating arm is articulated on the fixed arm, and in which the reduction means comprise a system of connecting rods having first and second connecting rods connected by a connecting axis, the first connecting rod being articulated on the fixed arm in a first connecting rod axis and the second connecting rod being articulated on the movable support arm in a second connecting rod axis.
- This clamp comprises means for mechanical connection and transmission of movement between the movable actuating arm and the system of connecting rods.
- the first connecting rod is formed by a part of a plate which ends in a hook capable of cooperating with a stud carried by the movable actuating arm to secure said first connecting rod with this arm.
- the first connecting rod is fixed relative to the movable actuating arm, which means that the articulation axis of this arm on the fixed arm must coincide with the articulation axis of the first connecting rod on the fixed arm.
- the stud must be moved to release it from the hook, allow the latter to occupy its open position, and thus release the first connecting rod from the movable actuating arm.
- the plate carrying the first connecting rod must be moved to allow the stud to hold the hook again, while the user holds the clamp by his actuating arms.
- the handling of this system is relatively complex. Its conformation is complicated because the stud must be movable in the movable actuating arm, while being constantly returned to its hooking position by a spring. Another spring is necessary to return the hook to its open position when the stud is released.
- the present invention aims to provide an improved clamp, in particular a clamp for tightening a clamp, having means for mechanical connection and transmission of movement between the movable actuating arm and the system of connecting rods which are simple and reliable. This object is achieved thanks to the fact that the mechanical connection and movement transmission means comprise cam means.
- cam means can easily be shaped to adapt the reduction to the tightening curve (tightening force / stroke) desired.
- the mechanical connection and transmission transmission means comprise a cam track integral with one of the elements constituted by the movable actuating arm and the system of connecting rods, a cam roller integral with the other of said elements and means for retaining this roller on this track.
- the cam track and cam roller system is technically simple to make and perfectly reliable for ensuring the mechanical connection between the movable actuating arm and the link system and transmitting the movement allowing the clamping of the multiplied clamp.
- the cam track is formed on an edge of a window in which the cam roller is retained. The shape of the cam track makes it possible to adapt the tightening curve to the envisaged application.
- the mechanical connection by the cam means according to the invention makes it possible to perfectly control the kinematics of the movement of the mobile actuating arm without making it compulsory that the axis of articulation of this arm relative to the fixed arm is coincident with the hinge axis of the first connecting rod on the fixed arm, as was the case in DE 1 300 478, which required to accommodate the two connecting rods in the extremely small space located between this axis and the movable support arm and therefore forced to choose connecting rods of short length, which limited the reduction.
- it is preferred that the articulation axis of the actuating arm movable relative to the fixed arm and the articulation axis of the first connecting rod relative to the fixed arm are distinct.
- the axis of articulation of the movable actuating arm relative to the fixed arm is disposed, on the fixed arm, between the axis of articulation of the first connecting rod relative to the fixed arm and the end of this fixed arm which carries the fixed jaw.
- the two connecting rods form a closed angle with respect to the other, so that the first and the second connecting rod axes are relatively close.
- the angle formed by the two connecting rods around their connecting axis has opened, they are practically aligned, so that the distance between the first and the second connecting rod axes is maximum.
- the reduction ratio of the clamp is a function of the difference between the distance between the two connecting rod axes in the open configuration of the clamp and the distance between the same axes when the clamp is tightened.
- this ratio is important thanks to the presence of the two connecting rods articulated with respect to each other.
- the distance between the movable actuating arm and the fixed arm when the clamp is open is limited by the mechanical connection means between this actuating arm and the connecting rod system.
- the cam means which form these mechanical connection means are made so that, in the open position of the clamp, the angle formed by the two connecting rods is relatively closed, while it is as open as possible in the position clamping force.
- the clamp comprises means for retaining the movement of the movable actuating arm in the direction of opening of the clamp and thus defining an intermediate opening configuration in which the clamp is opened according to an opening amplitude lower than its maximum opening amplitude.
- the clamp can be adapted to the clamping of a first category of objects whose spacing of the parts to be clamped corresponds to the space provided between the jaws when the clamp is in its maximum opening position, and to that of a second category of objects whose spacing of the parts to be clamped has a smaller dimension, corresponding to the spacing between the jaws in this intermediate open position.
- the clamp advantageously comprises a retaining member capable of occupying a retaining position in which it retains the movement of the movable actuating arm and a release position in which it releases this movement.
- FIG. 1 is an elevational view (taken along the pivot axis of the movable actuating arm) of a clamp according to the invention, in its open configuration;
- - Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1, showing the clamp in its closed configuration;
- - Figure 3 is a side view along arrow III of Figure 2;
- Figure 4 is a view similar to Figures 1 and 2, showing the clamp in its intermediate opening configuration
- FIG. 5 is an enlargement of the area V of Figure 4;
- - Figure 6 is a partial elevational view showing the clamp closed, for an alternative embodiment;
- FIG. 7 is a section along line VII-VII of Figure 6.
- the clamp according to the invention comprises a fixed arm 10, one end portion 10A of which carries a jaw, called the fixed jaw 12, and an opposite end portion 10B of which is intended to be used for clamping the clamp.
- the clamp also comprises a movable actuating arm 14, one end 14A of which is articulated on the fixed arm 10 by a hinge pin 16 and the opposite end of which 14B is intended, with the end 10B of the fixed arm 10, to be manipulated to open or tighten the clamp.
- the latter also includes a movable support arm 18, the end 18A of which carries the movable jaw 20. In its central region, this support arm 18 is also articulated on the fixed arm 10. In the advantageous example shown, the axis of articulation of the arm of the movable support relative to the fixed arm coincides with the aforementioned axis of articulation 16.
- the clamp comprises elastic return means towards its open configuration which, in the example shown, consist of a compression spring 22 disposed between the fixed arm and the movable support arm, in the end regions 10A and 18A of these latter.
- An attachment hook 24 is able to cooperate with a hooking stud 26 to maintain the clamp in its tight configuration.
- the means of reduction of the clamp comprise a system of connecting rods having a first connecting rod 28 which, at its first end is articulated on the fixed arm 10 in a hinge pin 28A. They also include a second connecting rod 30 which, at its first end, is articulated on the mobile support arm in a hinge pin 30A. This axis is located in the end region 18B of the movable support arm opposite its end 18A.
- the two connecting rods 28 and 30 are articulated relative to each other at their respective second ends, by a connecting pin 32.
- the articulation axis 16 is disposed, on the fixed arm 10, between the articulation axis 28A of the first connecting rod 28 and the jaw 12 carried by this fixed arm. This arrangement is advantageous, in particular from the point of view of the amplitude of the reduction since the two connecting rods can be relatively long.
- these mechanical connection and movement transmission means are cam means. They comprise a cam track integral with one of the elements constituted by the movable actuating arm 14 and by the system of connecting rods (in particular by the first connecting rod), as well as a follower member (for example a cam roller ) which is integral with the other of these elements and which cooperates with the cam track during the opening and closing movements of the clamp.
- cam window 34 formed in the actuating arm 14 and a cam roller 36 belonging to the system of connecting rods.
- cam roller are used for convenience, because the part 36 slides on the edge of the window 34.
- this part 36 is not necessarily rotatable about its geometric axis 36A.
- roller cam is integral with the first connecting rod 28.
- it could be located in the region of the connecting axis 32, the geometric axis of the roller being able to coincide with this axis 32.
- the roller is located in a zone of the first connecting rod which extends between the articulation axis 16 of the arm 14 relative to the arm 10 and a line connecting the first connecting rod axis 28A, l ' connecting axis 32 and the second connecting rod axis 30A.
- the axis 36A of the cam roller forms, with the axes 32 and 28A, the vertices of a triangle, the vertex corresponding to the axis 36A being located on the side of the axis 16.
- the connecting rod 28 comprises a main arm 27A which forms the base of this triangle, joining the axes 32 and 28A, and two arms 27B and 27C which forms the other two sides of the triangle.
- the fixed arm 10 of the clamp is made from a single sheet metal plate or the like.
- the movable actuating arm 14 has, between its end 14A and a central region 14C beyond which the handling zone extends, two parallel sheets, respectively 15A and 15B. At the end 14A, these two sheets extend on either side of the fixed arm 10. Between this end and the zone 14C, they form two identical cheeks. Thus, a cam window 34 is formed in each of these two cheeks.
- One of the connecting rods, for example the second connecting rod 30, is formed by a single rod while the other connecting rod, for example the first connecting rod 28, is formed by two elementary connecting rods in the form of parallel plates, respectively 29A and 29B.
- the connecting rod 30 is disposed between these two parallel connecting rods.
- they are themselves disposed on either side of the fixed arm 10.
- several bracing rods can be provided to maintain the spacing between the two elementary connecting rods 29A and 29B.
- the sheets 15A and 15B have openings other than the cam windows. It is also for this reason that the central part of the triangle, the first connecting rod of which forms the base, is hollowed out.
- the roller 36 is itself formed by two elementary rollers 37A and 37B respectively, projecting respectively from the sides of the clamp from the elementary connecting rods 29A and 29B, to cooperate with each of the two elementary cam windows.
- the window 34 has an edge 34A, located on the side opposite the fixed arm 10, with which the roller cooperates when the arm 14 is moved towards the arm 10 to tighten the clamp.
- the opposite edge 34B of the window 34 which is close to the arm 10, cooperates with the roller 36 to retain the movable arm 18 with respect to a spacing relative to the fixed arm 10.
- Figure 1 shows the clamp in its maximum opening configuration, and we see that the roller 36 cooperates with the part of the cam track which is furthest from the axis 16.
- the clamp has an intermediate opening configuration. This configuration is defined by retaining means which, when active, prevent further opening of the actuating arm. These means are produced by a retaining member 40 capable of occupying a retaining position in which it retains the movement of the movable actuating arm and a release position in which it releases this movement.
- this retaining member is constituted by a hook or the like disposed between the movable actuating arm and the fixed arm. It is advantageous to produce this retaining member in the form of a member capable of being actuated between these two positions by the hand of the user who holds the clamp normally by the handling portions of the arms 10 and 14. Thus, this member is preferably constituted by a lever capable of being actuated by the thumb of the user while the latter holds the clamp in hand.
- lever 40 which is pivotally mounted on the fixed arm 10, around a pivot axis 42.
- This lever has a retaining end 40A and a handling end 40B , arranged on either side of the axis 42. It is understood that, when the user holds the clamp by placing the fixed arm 10 on the palm side of the hand, the lever can be easily actuated by the thumb.
- FIG. 5 shows the lever 40 in its retaining position, in which it is recalled by a spring 44 wound around the axis of the lever and one end of which bears on the fixed arm 10, while the other cooperates with the lever, tending to cause it to constantly tilt towards its retaining position.
- the retaining part 40A of the retaining lever 40 extends between the arms 10 and 18. It cooperates with a retaining surface 46 which belongs to the system of connecting rods and which is also located between these arms.
- the upper face (closest to the axis 16) of the retaining part 40A of the lever 40 forms a first locking face which cooperates with the second locking face that forms the facet 46 of the link 28.
- This facet is for example formed in the region of the axis 32. It is understood that, when these two locking surfaces cooperate with each other, they prevent the roller 36 from going down into the cam window 34 away from the axis 16. They therefore limit the opening of the arm 18. To release the opening of this arm, it suffices to press the actuating part 40B of the lever, so as to allow the locking face 46 to escape from the head 40A of the lever, thereby authorizing the roller to descend into the cam window.
- the cam surface 34A is produced so that this descent is automatic as soon as the lever is actuated.
- the shape of the oblong defined by the edge of the window 34 is determined so as to distribute the closing force of the clamp appropriately over the entire travel of movement from the arm 18 towards the arm 10.
- FIGS. 6 and 7 show an alternative embodiment for these retaining means.
- the retaining means comprise an adjustable stop 140, which is integral with the movable actuating arm 14 while being movable between a retaining position in which it is able to cooperate in abutment with the movable support arm to limit the movement of the latter in the direction of opening of the clamp and a release position in which it releases this movement.
- the sheet 15B of the arm 14 has a slot 141 in which the stop 140 slides.
- the latter comprises a handling head 142 located on the outside of the sheet 15B, a rod 144 which passes through the slot and a foot 146 located on the inner side of the sheet 15B.
- This foot has a reduced thickness to be housed, when the clamp is closed, in a step 11 of the arm 10 which locally distances this arm from the sheet 15B.
- the stop 140 is at the lower end (opposite to the jaws 12 and 20) of the slot 141, as in FIG. 6, its foot 146 is able to cooperate with a part 19A of the movable support arm 18 to abut against this last when it moves closer to the fixed arm which occurs when the clamp is opened.
- the arm 18 has, in the region of the axis 16, a recess 19B which removes it locally from the sheet 15B.
- the release position of the stop 140 is that in which it is in the upper region of the slot 141. Indeed, in this case, the foot 146 of the stop is on the travel of a region 19′B of the recess 19B during the movement of the mobile support arm, so that it no longer hinders the opening of the clamp.
- Slot 141 has the shape of a buttonhole whose upper end
- an O-ring 147 is disposed between the head 142 and the sheet 15B.
