Description

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR NETWORK-BASED EDUCATION AND TRAINING CAPABLE OF EVALUATING LEARNER'S FAITHFULNESS AND COMPUTER-READABLE MEDIUM RECORDING ITS PROGRAM
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a method and system for education using a network which can evaluate faithfulness and attendance of a learner in a class through a network such as the Internet as in an actual classroom in a school or educational institute, and a computer-readable medium recording a program therefor.
Background Art
As one of education methods using a network such as the Internet, for example, the content of a class provided in a school or an educational institute is recorded on a video tape and the video tape as is or appropriately edited is converted to a computer file such as a motion picture stream file which can be read by a computer, so that a class using the motion picture stream file through a virtual space on the Internet. Then, a student who was not able to attend an actual class can study by himself by using a computer at a place and time he wishes. Furthermore, a student who did not understand the content of the class well although attended the class may have a chance to review the content of the class so that the effect of education is improved.
Presently, there are many Internet study sites, so-called a cyber school. Typically, the way of education provided in the cyber school is that a list of courses is displayed as linked information on a screen of a learner's computer connected to an Internet server, a learner selects one class from the list and downloads a motion picture stream file of the selected class, and the downloaded motion picture stream file is reproduced by driving a motion picture reproduction program installed in the learner's computer so that the class is provided.
The class provided in a virtual space on the Internet provides the following merits. A learner can attend a class by using a computer at the time and place he wishes and select a desired class according to the subject he needs or the level of the learner. In particular, since a learner can take a class at a quite inexpensive fee compared to that in a private educational institute, the cyber class becomes popular.
Accordingly, private educational institutes or public educational organizations increasingly provide classes through the Internet by themselves or using existing cyber schools. Also, there have been cyber educational organizations officially approved by the Government to provide a degree or qualification.
To improve the effect of education with respect to learners (students), as in a class provided in an actual class, a teach needs to check attendances of the students, controls unnecessary behaviors by the students during the class, and if necessary, asks questions to the students and evaluates the achievement of students through a test, so that an atmosphere in which the students can concentrate on the class. However, since no teach who will supervise students is present in the class on the Internet, there is no way to prevent or punish misdeeds of the students accessing to the cyber school such as not paying attention to the class, playing games, chatting, sleeping, or moving out of desk during the class. Accordingly, most of the conventional cyber schools have not meet the expectation by parents or entrusting organizations. In particular, when the entrusting organization is a public educational organization, checking the attendance is needed to evaluate students and it is not sufficient to consider clicking on the course list by a student as the presence of the student. To solve the above problem, a minimum period is set for students to attend an actual class so that a teach give an actual lecture and have a test to educate and evaluate the students. However, the above method is inconvenient and has many things to be solved.
Disclosure of the Invention
Thus, to solve the above problems, it is an objective of the present invention to provide a method and system for education using a network which can surely check and manage the faithfulness and attendance of learners in a class open on a network such as the Internet, as in an actual classroom in a school or educational institute, and a computer-readable medium recording a program for the method.
To achieve the above objective, there is provided an education method using a network capable of evaluating faithfulness of a learner, which comprises the steps of: storing course files to be studies by chapters with respect to at least one subject as computer-readable files and providing a class by transmitting and reproducing the course files of a chapter the learner select to a learner computer through the network so that the learner studies, when the class is normally completed, providing questions related to the content of the course files the learner studied through the network and evaluating by scoring a test paper submitted by the learner within a predetermined time, and managing the attendance and progress of the learner according to the result of the test. It is preferred in the present invention that after the class is provided a skip in the course file transmitted and reproduced is prohibited and a reproduced portion is repeatedly reproduced and only for the case in which the reproduction is normally completed an enter to the evaluation step is allowed. Here, the level means the ability of a learner in study which is set by the learner or by a school or educational institute to which the learner belongs to. The level is not a necessary item and can be referred to at various evaluations.
FIGS. 4 and 5 are flow charts for showing major processing steps of a program executing the education method according to the present invention. Referring to the flow charts, when the web server 10 connected to the network is operated, and when a general user or learner inputs a web address through a browser installed the user computer 40 through the network, the web server 10 transmits one or more web pages including a home page. The web pages transmitted to the user (learner) computer 40 include shared pages provided to the general user including the registered learner and a learner exclusive page opened by the learner. Typically, the general user can request registration as a learner through a home page displayed at the first time when he accesses to the home page or through linked other pages. Registered learner can login with an ID and password given at registration. Here, when a learner who receives an ID and password according to collective entrustment by a school or educational institute, the learner needs not to register again. FIG. 4 shows processing steps with respect to major functions provided when a learner accessing to the web server 10 logging in by inputting one's ID and password. When the learner logs in (S1 ), the web server 10 displays information fit for a learner on a browser of the learner (S2). The fit information includes subjects for which the learner applies and a course list per chapter of each subject. Preferably, the course list indicates chapters previously studied, a chapter presently being studied, and chapters to be studied in the future. More preferably, in the course list, the chapters previously studied are indicated as link information for review, and the chapters presently being studied are provided as link information for study. That is, the web server 10 determines whether the learner request a course by clicking the course list (S3), and performs a class with the course list the learner clicks and a linked course file by driving the class provision processing portion 11 (S5). A detailed class provision process is shown in FIG. 5, which will be described later. The fit information of the learner provides buttons for selecting various functions. According to the selected button, the web server 10 determines whether the learner requests a test (S5), applies for a course (S7), requests for study, or requests for a list of attendance (S9). The web server 10 repeatedly performs testing a level test (S6), receiving a course application (S8), or downloading a list of attendance (S10) until whether the learner logs out is determined. (S11 )
Although not shown in the level testing step (S6), the learner can select evaluation of one's own study ability or re-test on one's ability with respect to the contents that have been studied and questions for evaluation of each learner are given to the learner and the result of test is graded and processed.
In the course application receiving step (S8), the learner can apply for a subject he wishes to study at the first time after the registration or anytime thereafter and participate the course. Here, the system operator may charge the learner for the course as a tuition fee.
In the attendance list downloading step (S10), a list of attendance per chapter with respect to the subject the learner applies for is transmitted to the learner computer 40 or the school (educational institute) 50 of the learners through the network. The learner computer
40 or the school (educational institute) 50 of the learners stores or prints out the downloaded attendance list so that it can be kept as a document.
FIG. 5 shows the class provision step S4 in detail. When a course is requested, the study window 60 is displayed on a browser of the learner computer 40 (S12), as shown in FIG. 2, and it is determined whether the course selected by the learner from the course list displayed by the above-described fit information is a chapter for review which has been already studied by the learner and the learner's attendance is admitted (S13). If the selected course is determined to be a chapter for review, a corresponding course file is searched from the course database 22 and a stream file thereof is transmitted to the learner computer 40 (S14) to perform a class for review. During the review study, a skip in the movable time bar 63 in the study window 60 of FIG. 2 is allowed. If the course selected by the learner is not a chapter for review, whether the selected course is the first chapter of the course is determined (S15). If it is not the first chapter, it means that there must be a chapter studied preceding the first chapter. Thus, the preceding study knowledge evaluation processing portion 13 is called and a previous chapter testing step (S16) for evaluating whether the learner is well aware of the content of study with respect to the previous chapter is performed to determine whether the learner passes the test (S17). The preceding study knowledge evaluation processing portion 13 gives a test and evaluates the result thereof, through the network, by randomly extracting preceding study questions related to the content of the previous chapter from the question database S23, in the previous chapter testing step (S16). If the learner has not passed the previous chapter testing step S16, the learner is recommended to select a review of the previous chapter and whether the learner selects the review is determined (S18). If the learner selects the review, a previous chapter stream file is transmitted S19 to perform a class for review and the previous chapter testing step S16 is repeated.
If the learner passes the previous chapter test or the course the learner selects is not a chapter for review and simultaneously the selected course is the first chapter of the course, a stream file corresponding to the selected course is transmitted (S20) and a class is provided. Here, a skip in the movable time bar 63 in the study window 60 of FIG. 2 is not allowed. When the movable time bar 63 moves to the end, all motion picture stream files are reproduced and the class is determined to be normally completed (S21 ). Then, the web server 10 requests the study achievement evaluation processing portion 12 to evaluate the achievement of study by the learner through the class currently provided. Then, the study achievement evaluation processing portion 12 gives a test through the network by randomly extracting prepared questions related to the content of the class from the question database 23 (S22) and determines whether the learner submits a test result (S26). It the learner does not submit the test result, whether a predetermined time passes is determined (S27). If the test result is not submitted within a predetermined time, the test result is forcibly collected as is (S28). Next, the test result submitted by the learner or forcibly collected is graded compared with correct answers stored in the answer database 24 (S24).
Whether the learner passes over a predetermined level is determined from the returned grade result (S25). If the learner passes it, the attendance with respect to the class is admitted (S26). The attendance management processing portion 16 updates attendance information of a learner stored in the learner management database 21 so that a record section of a corresponding chapter of the attendance table 70 shown in FIG. 3 is checked. If the learner does not pass the predetermined level, the attendance with respect to the class is not admitted. Thus, the learner is recommended to re-study and whether there is a request for re-study is determined S29. if there is a request for re-study, the stream file transmitting step S20 is repeated. Otherwise, the class is completed. When the reproduction of a stream file is forcibly terminated during the class by the learner or cut off of electricity or any intentional manipulation, or after normal completion is terminated while not passing it, the attendance with respect to the class is not admitted. If the attendance is not admitted, a class for the chapter next to the present chapter is not provided. The learner management database 21 contains information which can suggest a score or grade according to the result of a test after a class for each chapter, in addition to the attendance information with respect to each chapter of each subject. For example, the score and grade can be notified at the request by a school or educational institute the learner belongs to. Thus, the school or educational institute can utilize the evaluation based on the attendance information and the score or grade as a base material for determination of promotion or entitlement for the corresponding learner.
Industrial Applicability
As described above, in the method of education according to the present invention, to have the attendance with respect to the subject the learner applies for admitted, the learner needs to study thoroughly at least one time with respect to the subject the learner applies for and reach a predetermined level through a test after study. Then, the learner can study the next chapter. Also, until the learner complete the study with respect to the final chapter, the learner needs to be well aware of the entire chapters. In other words, the learner must attend the class to have the attendance admitted and study hard in the class.
Thus, the present invention is effective in improve a degree of the attendance and faithfulness in the class. Whether the learner studies hard can be recognized by the attendance management table so that reliability of parents, or organizations entrusting the learner can be improved. Also, it can effectively contribute the ability of the learner.
