Abstract

A label for attachment to an article comprising a substrate having a front side and a back side, one or more gaming messages on the back side, and an opaque covering on the back side overlaying and concealing the one or more gaming messages, and removable to reveal the one or more gaming messages. The opaque covering is desirably a scratch-off covering. The label can be removed from the article and at least a portion of the opaque covering can be removed to reveal at least one of the gaming messages and indicate whether the player has won or lost. The label is particularly suitable for packaged beverages in plastic or glass containers. The label is made by printing a first image on the front side of the substrate, printing one or more gaming messages on the back side of the substrate, and overlaying and concealing the one or more game messages with the opaque covering. The opaque covering is desirably water resistant and, for example, can include a water-resistant, transparent, protective layer between the one or more gaming messages and an opaque layer of the opaque covering.
