- a drawback of this prior art method is low reliability of identification of object authenticity due to inadequate anti- counterfeiting protection.

- the objective of the present invention is to provide a method allowing 100% trustworthy determination of authenticity of an inspected object and identification of the marker.
- a method for identification of authenticity of an inspected object comprising application of marks which contain object-related information to this object with subsequent readout of this information and comparison of the information thus read out with the database of authentic objects, wherein the object-related information is formed in a digital form including information about the object type, manufacturer, manufacturing date, unique number of the object, accompanying documents thereto, and signed with an electronic digital signature of the marker, the resulting information is converted to a bar code which is applied to the object or a label fastened to the object, and during readout of the information the bar code is converted to a digital form, and the electronic digital signature and the object-related information are selected therefrom, after which the electronic digital signature is verified for authenticity, and, if the signature is authentic, verification of the object for authenticity is carried out by comparison of the read information with the database of authentic objects, and, if this information is coincident, the object is identified as an authentic one, but, if the electronic digital signature is identified as inauthentic or if the electronic digital signature is identified as authentic and the object-

- the novelty of the present invention is that the applicant has managed to realize on a material carrier an electron digital signature earlier used in an immaterial form and to combine it with a large volume of information about the object and its marker. Further, the novelty is that such marking makes it possible not only to determine the manufacture but also to identify, with 100% reliability, the person who made the marking.

- There is a state body which is authorized to control production and turnover of alcohol products e.g., State Inspection Board for Control of Production and Turnover of Alcohol Products, below referred to as "inspection body" which issues licenses to producers and authorized supply depots for marking of alcohol products to be sold within the area under its control and provides them with excise marks.
- the producer of alcohol goods submits an application to the inspection body for issuance of the required number of excise marks to him.
- the inspection body makes a decision about assignment of the required number of excise marks, establishes the accounting range of their numbers and inputs this information into the database of authentic objects of alcohol products.
- the inspection body arranges printing of excise marks (labels) which contain information about the object: type of the alcohol product, manufacturer, bottling date, batch number, quality certificate number, bottle number, and signs them with an electronic digital signature of the inspection body.
- Printed marks (labels) are forwarded to the manufacturer who pastes them on his products.
- the inspection body conducts inspection in retail units.
- the inspector who carries out inspection is provided with a notebook-type computer with a scanner connected to it. During inspection, the inspector selects arbitrarily several bottles from a batch and reads out information from excise marks using the scanner.
- the computer having received the read out information, verifies the electronic digital signature and the object-related information and outputs information concerning authenticity or non-authenticity of the alcohol products being inspected.
- the method according to the invention is realized as follows. For each object to be inspected, information is formed in the memory unit of the computer including data on the type of the object, its manufacturer, manufacturing date, unique number of the object, object-accompanying documents. Thus formed information is signed by an electronic digital signature of the marker (manufacturer, or wholesaler, or inspection body) formed by means of a closed cryptographic key (Russian State Standard GOST R 34.10-94). Then the initial information about the object under inspection and the electronic digital signature are converted to a bar code and applied either directly to the object or to a label which is later fastened to the object.

- Conversion of digital information to a bar code and application of the latter to a label can be carried out, for instance, using a standard bar code printer type DataMax Titan 6200 manufactured by DataMax Inc., USA Verification of authenticity of the inspected object is provided by readout of the bar code using a standard bar code scanner, e.g., type USB PDF manufactured by USB Corp., USA, which converts the information read out to a digital form.

- the electronic digital signature and information about the object being inspected are selected, and the electronic digital signature is verified using an open cryptographic key ( Russian State Standard GOST R 34.10-94); if the signature is recognized as authentic, then authenticity of the object is checked by comparison of the readout information about the object with the database of authentic objects, and, if the information coincides, the object is identified as an authentic one; if the electronic digital signature has been identified as inauthentic or if the electronic digital signature has been identified as authentic and the information about the object as inauthentic, then the object is identified as an inauthentic one.

- the method in accordance with the invention makes it possible to identify authenticity of an inspected object and to carry out accounting to an accuracy of each single object; further, it allows identification of the particular marker who marked the object being inspected by his electronic digital signature.
- the invention provides a high degree of protection due to application of state-of-art methods of cryptographic information protection (electronic digital signature).

- bar code information can be applied to a label having a holographic image thereon since the holographic image cannot be reproduced by copier equipment and is destroyed in case an attempt is made to separate the label from the product.
- the identification method according to the invention is highly economical and easy to realize.
- the process of marking itself is readily adapted to quantity production and does not require high time or financial expenditures.
- This identification method will find extensive application in industrial manufacture of excisable goods and will provide rapid and reliable control of sales of any products.
