Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for the propulsion of ships or other maritime objects, which is equipped with counter-rotating propellers, each propeller with the associated shaft, the drive motor, the support and pressure bearings forming a drive module which is completely independent in operation and independent of others Drive elements is separated.
- Counter-rotating propellers arranged one behind the other for ship propulsion systems have been known for a long time and are already part of the prior art. Compared to conventional ship propulsion systems with one, two or more propellers arranged side by side, all propulsion systems with counter-rotating propellers differ in their higher propulsion efficiency.
- the present invention has for its object to provide a marine propulsion system that takes advantage of two counter-rotating propellers, but in particular by a simple, easy to build, maintain or repair a higher operational reliability or redundancy.
- each of the two counter-rotating propellers has its own drive and belongs to a separate drive module.
- the two drive modules are housed in the same fuselage, but the power transmission is not physically affected.
- the maximum possible redundancy is achieved by dividing the power into two separate drive modules, which are fed by independent energy sources and, if desired, are still separated from each other in the fuselage in a watertight manner.
- the hydrodynamically favorable hull according to this invention equipped with two counter-rotating propulsion units, can be fixed in the rear or front part or under the bottom of a ship or maritime object, retractable or rotatable.
- this device gives a ship or maritime object the same advantages which the devices known on the market under the name "rudder propeller” (in English “A-rimuth Thruster” or “Azipod”) are promised.
- the two propellers are each driven directly by their own electric motor.
- both propellers or at least one of the proposed drive devices are driven by electric motors.
- this device offers it all known advantages of diesel or turboelectric drives on ships (space savings, light
- This drive module is then installed in the rudder spur or supported by a suitable construction, the propeller of the drive module being arranged directly opposite and coaxially according to vome, the conventional propeller and rotating in opposite directions.
- FIG 1 with (1) is a hollow hull with a hydrodynamically favorable shape.
- a propeller (2) is attached to a shaft (3) which is driven directly by the rotor (4) of an electric motor.
- the stator (5) of the electric motor is attached to the fuselage (1).
- the shaft (3) is supported on the two support bearings (6) and the propeller insert is held up by the thrust bearing (7), whereby a support bearing (6) and the thrust bearing (7) can be combined coristively.
- the electric motor, support and thrust bearings are placed on suitable foundations (8).
- the hull (1) is closed on the side of the thrust bearing with a bulkhead (9) or another symmetrical hull, and on the propeller side the shaft is provided with a seal (10) that is common in shipbuilding.
- the entire device described here thus forms a drive module.
- Figure 2 shows two drive modules (11), which are arranged "back to back” in a common fuselage (12).
- a wall (9) or just a simple suitable construction separates or supports the inner end of the two drive modules (11).
- the common hull (12) is fixed, rotatable, or retractable to a boat, ship, pontoon or offshore platform
- Fig. 3 shows another possible application of the invention as an example.
- a hydrodynamic hull (13) contains only a single drive module (11) and is installed in a rudder spur (14) adapted for this purpose.
- the hull (13) with the propeller (2) lies behind the conventional propeller (15) of a screw-in ship, the two propellers (2) and (15) being coaxial, rotating in opposite directions and having no physical contact with one another.
- the application example shown here remains valid for two- or multi-screw ships. If there is no rudder with spur, this can be replaced with a suitable construction to which the hull (13) is attached.
- a second hull (13) with a second propulsion module (11) can also be used, whereby this is turned upside down in the longitudinal direction, ie with its propeller (2) arranged to the rear.
- the propellers (2) of the two drive modules are co-axial and counter-rotating.
- a solution to the problem would consist of two counter-rotating propellers arranged one behind the other because of the power distribution and their high overall efficiency.
- the two propellers are driven by two concentric shafts.
- the special bearing between the two shafts is not accessible from the outside and is difficult to repair. It forms the weak point, the "Achilles heel" of the system, where the energy flows also affect the propellers. This questions the redundancy of the entire system.
- the modules can also be installed in a rudder spur or stern leg of a conventional ship, rotating in opposite directions.
- the possible uses of the invention include all fast and demanding ship types, such as, for example, ferry, cruise, cooling and container ships, as well as offshore platforms or even naval ships.
