  • the filter, manufacturing apparatus and method of the present invention enable high productivity in the manufacture of fluid filters of the type used for transmission fluid and engine oil.
  • the present invention also allows the joining of housing section 14, 16 without vibration welding thereby enabling a closer crimp of the edges of the filter media for a tighter seal than has been possible in the prior art.

Abstract

Un filtre (10) de boîte de vitesses préféré comporte une première bride (18) transparente au faisceau laser (58) ainsi qu'une deuxième bride (20) opaque au faisceau laser (58) et pouvant fondre lorsqu'elle est exposée à ce dernier. Les brides (18, 20), sont alignées et mise bout à bout avec un cordon de soudure laser (62) situé au niveau de la jonction (44) entre les brides (18, 20) de manière qu'un joint étanche entoure le filtre (10). L'appareil de fabrication de filtre préféré (12) comporte un laser (54) couplé à un bras de robot (50) commandé par un automate programmable (52). Ledit automate (52) actionne le bras de robot (50) de manière à diriger le faisceau laser (58) à travers la première bride (18) et sur la deuxième bride (20), ainsi que le long de la jonction (44) de sorte que le cordon de soudure laser (62) soit formé.
