Abstract

A method of streaming data (e.g., video and audio data) over a network (e.g., the Internet) begins with the receipt of data input at a messaging client (e.g., a Java applet) executing on a client machine. Concurrently with the receipt of the data input, the messaging client streams data output over the network, the data output being derived from the data input. Once a user has completed an input (e.g., reach the end of a voice message), the user selects a 'send' option, which sends a confirmation indication from the messaging client to a storage system that has already received the streamed data output. The storage system then, responsive to the confirmation indication, validates a data file constructed utilizing the streamed data output of the messaging client. Thus, for example, audio data may be streamed from the messaging client concurrently with audio input thereto, and merely confirmed by user-selection of a 'send' option.
