Abstract

A low-cost device for charging batteries, more particularly for notebooks, is disclosed. Said device comprises a computer intelligence (MC) and a charging circuit controlled by the latter. Both components are connected to a first connecting unit (EAE) of a corresponding basic device (GG) to which adapter units (AE) can be attached, each of which is responsible for a predetermined type of battery to be charged. Each adapter unit (AE) has a mating plug (GS) which, in comparison with the first connecting unit (EAE), enables the computer unit (MC) to recognize the available adapter unit type (AE) and to regulate accordingly the charge algorithm.
