Definitions
- the present invention relates to a suspension device for a sheet-shaped information medium, such as a poster or the like, for fastening to a wall or another surface, comprising an upper and a lower rod to which the information medium can be fastened, whereby the upper rod is connected to a cord system having pulleys, for raising and lowering relatively to members fastened to the wall or similar.
- Such suspension devices can be used for all types of sheet-shaped information media, such as posters, and is in particular used for advertising posters.
- the devices permit a simple putting up and replacement of the posters, as an alternative to glueing on walls and similar.
- For putting up a poster can be fastened to the upper rod while this has been lowered by use of the cord system, and is thereupon raised by use thereof.
- the lower rod will due to its weight keep the poster tensioned during raising, and can at the termination of the raising be inserted in members fastened to the wall, whereby the poster is held tensioned vertically in a suspended state.
- the members on the wall are presupposed to be able to keep the rods in such a vertical distance that when the upper rod is raised to its maximum and is stopped by the upper members, the lower rod is stopped by the lower members, whereby the poster mainly is kept tensioned in the vertical direction. It is possible to mount springs, in or on the members, or in or on the rods, in order to compensate for a possible difference between the length of the poster being used and the length which the poster was meant to have, so that the poster is given a certain tension despite this difference in length.
- a known cord system for such a suspension device shown in Norwegian acceptance print No. 178709, comprises two pulleys, one at each end of an upper horizontal member which is fastened to a wall or similar, and two cords fastened at the respective ends of a rod to which a poster can be fastened. It may be difficult for one person to pull two cords at the same time.
- the cords, which pass the respective pulleys near opposite ends of the upper member on the wall, may be connected together with their lower ends, but not even this makes the manipulation notably simpler, because both of the cords still have to be manipulated.
- the suspension device is characterized in that the cord system comprises a single cord connected to an upper member fastened to the wall, and which runs below two pulleys journalled in the upper rod near its respective 2 ends, and which runs above a third pulley journalled in an upper member fastened to the wall and depends from this pulley in order to be manipulated for raising and lowering.
- the poster may during raising be hanging inclined, which is of no importance, because the upper rod finally will enter both of the two upper wall members and be positioned horizontally. Thus, it may occur during raising that one end of the upper rod hits one of the upper wall members before the other end hits the other wall member, i. e. that the rod is hanging inclined, but continued pulling of the cord will pull the rod up until it has entered both of the upper wall members and consequently is horizontal.
- the cord is fastened in a suitable manner.
- Fig. 1 shows a front view of an example of a suspension device according to the invention, with a poster being in the course of being raised or lowered by use of the device.
- Fig. 2 shows a vertical section through a wall member and an upper rod having been conveyed up into the wall member, on the left side in Fig. 1.
- Fig. 3 shows a vertical section through a wall member and the upper rod having been conveyed up into the wall member, on the right side in Fig. 1.
- a poster 4 is in Fig. 1 shown fastened to an upper rod 1 and a lower rod 2.
- the fastening may for instance take place in that the poster has a thickening 12 along its upper and lower edges, as shown for the upper edge in Figs. 2 and 3, whereby the thickenings 12 are inserted in undercut grooves 14 in the rods 1 and 2, as shown for the upper rod 1 in Figs. 2 and 3.
- Any other suitable fastening methods can be use within the scope of the invention.
- Two upper wall members 8 and 9 are fastened to a wall along which the poster 4 is to hang, for instance by use of bolts 13 shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
- a cord 6 is fastened, for instance by use of a knot 3.
- the cord 6 has been run below a first pulley 5 journalled in the upper rod 1 , shown in Fig. 2 and to the left in Fig. 1 , whereupon the cord 6 extends horizontally along the rod 1 to a second pulley 5 journalled in the upper rod 1 , shown in Fig. 3 and to the right in 3
- the cord 6 runs below the second pulley 5 and upwardly to the second wall member 9, where the cord runs above a pulley 7, as shown in Fig. 3 and to the right in Fig. 1.
- the cord 6 depends from the pulley 7, in order to be gripped for raising and lowering of the poster 4 and in order to be fastened in a suitable manner when the poster has been raised.
- lower wall members 10 and 11 shown in Fig. 1 can be mounted on the wall. These may be fastened to the wall by bolts, correspondingly as shown for the wall members 8 and 9.
- the lower wall members 10 and 11 act as stoppers for the lower rod 2, and provided that the length of the poster in the vertical direction has been adapted to the vertical distance between the wall members 8, 9 and 10, 11 , the upper end of the poster will be raised so that when the upper rod by pulling of the cord 6 has been conveyed up into the wall members 8, 9 as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the lower rod 2 has been conveyed up into the wall members 10, 11.
- springs in or on the wall members or in or on the rods can be used to compensate for inaccuracy with respect to the vertical length of the poster 4 relatively to the length is was meant to have, whereby the poster can be kept stretched to a reasonable degree in the vertical direction.
- the wall members 8, 9 and 10, 11 may be shaped in such a manner that they facilitate entering of the rods from below.
- the two left hand wall members 8, 10 can be combined into a vertical bar along one side of the poster and that the two right hand wall members 9, 11 can be correspondingly combined into a vertical bar along the opposite side of the poster.
- a vertical decorative strip can be fitted along each side.
- the wall members 8, 9 and 10, 11 as well as the rods 1 and 2 may be manufactured in any suitable manner, for instance of metal or plastics.
- the rods 1 and 2 appropriately may basically be extruded profiles, which are drilled for making the necessary holes for the cord 6 and for journaliing of the pulleys 5.
- the wall members can be made of extruded profiles, and the upper wall members are drilled for making holes for the cord 6 and the bolts 13, and moreover the upper wall member 9 is drilled for making holes for journaliing of the pulley 7.
