Abstract
The electronic device for the warning of overtaking and of danger in general according to the present invention, with the automatic operating of acoustic and/or visual signalling, for runing vehicles, comprises: an electronic transmitter (1) for the emission of an infrared rays signal or of other kind, possibly having angular limits and placed onto the overtaking vehicle; an electronic receiver (3) of said signal, housed onto the means that is to be overtaken, so that when it receives the overtaking warning, said receiver operates an acoustic (5) and/or visual (4) signal that informs and warns the driver, even if he is inattentive; in a similar way, the device according to the present invention provides for the information of the next vehicle coming along, in all other danger situations.
Description
"AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE FOR THE WARNING OF OVERTAKING AND OF DANGER IN GENERAL, WITH THE AUTOMATIC OPERATING OF ACOUSTIC AND / OR VISUAL SIGNALLING, FOR RUNNING VEHICLES"
The present invention concerns an electronic device for the warning of overtaking and of danger in general, with the automatic operating of acoustic and/or visual signalling, for runing vehicles.
It is known that in the traffic, in particular on motorways and on extra-town roads, often situations of serious danger of accidents occur due to inattention and/or lacking driving ability of the driver, such as:
- the vehicles remain in the overtaking lane, even when faster cars are coming along;
- sudden shiftings and moving of lanes are performed for overtaking, without taking care of other vehicles coming along;
- when a vehicle stops on the right side of the road, the doors are opened wide, while other vehicles are passing;
- often the safety distance between running vehicles is not respected;
- on two-lane roads, often the opposite lane is invaded.
It is the aim of the present invention to completely avoid above mentioned possible dangerous accidents, by
means of a device that may be applied onto all vehicles in an easy and cheap manner and that is of ce rta i n functioning.
The aim set forth is reached according to the present invention by means of an electronic device for warning of overtaking and of danger in general, with automatic operating of acoustic and/or visual signalling, for running vehicles, comprising:
- an electronic transmitter for the emission of an infrared rays signal or of other kind, possibly having angular limits and placed onto the overtaking vehicle;
- an electronic receiver of said signal, housed onto the means that is to be overtaken, so that when it receives the overtaking warning, said receiver operates an acoustic and/or visual signal that informs and warns the driver, even if he is inattentive; in a similar way, the device according to the present invention provides for the information of the next vehiclce coming along, in all other described situations.
The advantages resulting from the device according to the present invention are many and considerable, such as:
- the possible inattentive driver immediately m a kes free the overtaking tane when he receives the warning;
- due to the warning of the vehicle coming along on the overtaking lane, accidents due to shiftings on the left of the vehicles running before may be avoided;
- the safety distance will be observed, as it won't b e necessary any more to near the preceding vehicle for signalling the possible overtaking, but it will b e possible to inform the vehicle running before from the safety distance;
- in the two-lane roads, if the opposite lane is invaded, the overtaking warning calls the attention of the driver and makes him return in his own lane.
Above mentioned oertaking signal may be em itted together with the winking light, already provided on the vehicles, or by means of any control provided on the dashboard.
The receipt of the overtaking warning signal may be obtained by means of an acoustic and/or visual signal tracer provided on the dashboard or on the panel of the device.
The present invention will be described more in detail hereinbelow relating to the enclosed drawings in which an embodiment is shown.
Figure 1 shows a functional scheme of the two components of the device according to the present invention - transmitter and receiver - provided on each vehicle.
Figure 2 shows a scheme of a possible variant, with a double acoustic and visual signal.
Figure 3 shows a possible location of the transmitter and of the receiver on a vehicle.
Figures 4 and5 show the electronic schemes respectively of the transmitter and of its feeder.
Figures 6 and 7 show the electronic schemes respectively of the receiver and of its feeder.
The enclosed figures show an electronic device of warning for overtaking and danger in general, with automatic operation of acoustic and/or v i s u l a signalling, for running vehicles, comprising: - a transmitter 1 , possibly placed in correspondence with the high-beam headlights FA, with the
transmission LEDs 2 placed in the rear-view mirror SR;
- a receiver 3, possibly placed in correspondence with the thermic back window LT of said vehicle V, or in any other placement that may prevent the presence of any obstacle or barrier with respect to the transmitter 1 of another vehicle;
- a visual signalling means, of the kind with a lamp 4, and/or acoustic, of the kind with a buzzer, with an autonomous feeding or operated by the current of the battery B of the vehicle V, following to the receipt of the signal by the sensor 6, so that the driver, who may be inattentive, may immediately return in his lane, in case of overtaking, and may perform the conventional safety operations in any other dangerous situation.
For what concerns the specific realization, as shown in enclosed figures 4, 5, 6 and 7, the electronic device for the signalling of an overtaking between vehicles mainly consists of:
- an infrared rays transmitt e r 1 , placed i n correspondence with the high-beam headlights FA of the vehicle V onto which it has been installed, and that may be operated by the special control switch ι i ;
- a receiver 3, placed in correspondence with the back window LT of the vehicle V.
Said receiver comprises:
- a square wave synthesizer 7, that generates the impulses necessary for the functioning of the device according to the present invention, with the help of oscillators 8 and of the signal inverter 9;
- a transistor 1 0, for the control of the infrared rays emitter 2.
The receiver 3 consists of:
- a sensor 6 that receives the infrared signals coming from the transmitter 1 ;
- integrated circuits 1 2, which work out the received signals;
- a transistor 1 3 for the control of the relay 1 4;
- a relay 1 4, for operating the visual 4 or acoustic 5 signallers, warning of an overtaking.
When the overtaking signaller is operated by the driver, by means of a suitable control 1 1 placed in the dashboard, the transmitter 1 , making use of a square wave synthesizer and of two oscillators 8 united with an inverter 9, modulates a series of signals that reach transistor 10.
Said transistor, operated by the emitted signals, in turn operates the infrared rays emitters 2, placed behind the central rear-view mirror.
The infrared impulses coming from the transmitter 1 of the overtaking vehicle are received by receiver 3 , placed onto the back-window LT of the vehicle being overtaken, by means of a sensor 6.
The impulses received and worked out by the integrated circuits 1 2, determine the conduction of the transistor 1 3 and the following excitation of the relay 14, causing the activation of the visual 4 and/or acoustic 5 signaller placed in the driver's cabin, warning the driver of the overtaking started by the vehicle coming along behind.
The transmitter 1 and the receiver 3 are fed by the battery B of the vehicle V onto which they are installed, making use of a feeding circuit provided with a diode bridge 1 5 and with an adjusting device 1 6.
In a possible variant according to the present invention, the transmitter 1 and the receiver 3 may be housed in the lateral mirrors.
in a further variant, the device according to the present invention may also guarantee security in case of poor visibility due to fog:
- the vehicle that precedes emits, together with the switching on of the rear fog lamps, an infrared ray;
- the receiving device on the following car emits a sound and a flashing everytime the security distance is reduced, thus advising the driver of the danger.
Claims
1 . An electronic device for warning of overtaking and of danger in general, with automatic operation of acoustic and/or visual signalling, for ru n n ing vehicles, characterized in:
- a transmitter ( 1 ), placed in correspondence with the high-beam headlights (FA) or in any other location, with the transmission LEDs (2) placed in the rear- view mirror (SR);
- a receiver (3), placed in correspondence with the thermic back window (LT) of said vehicle (V), or in any other placement that may prevent the presence of any obstacle or barrier with respect to the transmitter ( 1 ) of another vehicle;
- a visual signalling means, of the kind with a lamp (4,) and/or acoustic, of the kind with a buzzer, with an autonomous feeding or operated by the current of the battery (B) of the vehicle (V), following to the receipt of the signal by the sensor (6), so that the driver, who may be inattentive, may immediately return in his lane, in case of overtaking, and may perform the conventional safety operations in any other dangerous situation.
2. An electronic device according to claim 1 , characterized in that it is operated with control switch (1 1 ).
3. An electronic device according to claim 1 , characterized in that said transmitter 1 comprises:
- a square wave synthesizer (7), that generates the impulses necessary for the functioning of the device according to the present invention, with the help of oscillators (8) and of the signal inverter (9);
- a transistor ( 10), for the control of the infrared rays emitter (2).
4. An electronic device according to claim 1 , characterized in that sad receiver (3) consisti of:
- a sensor (6) that receives the infrared signals coming from the transmitter (1 );
- integrated circuits (1 2), which work out the received signals;
- a transistor (1 3 )for the control of the relay ( 14);
- a relay 1 (4), for operating the visual (4) or acoustic (5) signallers, warning of an overtaking.

An electronic device according to claim 1 , characterized in that when the overtaking signaller is operated by the driver by means of control switch ( 1 1 ), said trasmitter ( 1 ), making use of a square wave synthesizer (7) and of two oscillators (8) united with an inverter (9 ), modulates a series of signals that reach transistor (1 0) which, operated by the emitted signals, in turn operates the infrared rays emitters (2), placed behind the central rear-view mirror, so that the infrared impulses are received by receiver (3), placed onto the back-window (LT) of the vehicle being overtaken, by means of a sensor (6) and are worked out by the integrated circuits (1 ), determining the conduction of the transistor ( 1 3) and the following excitation of the relay (1 4), causing the activation of the visual (4) and/or acoustic (5) signaller placed in the driver's cabin, warning the driver of the overtaking started by the vehicle coming along behind.
6. An electronic device according to claim 1 , characterized in that saiad transmitter (1 ) and said receiver (3) are fed by the battery (B) of the vehicle (V) onto which they are installed, with a feeding circuit provided with a diode bridge (1 5) and with ad adjusting device ( 1 6).
7. An electronic device according to claim 1 , characterized in that saiad transmitter ( 1 ) and said receiver (3) are housed in the lateral windows.
8. An electronic device accoding to claim 1 , characterized in that it guarantees security in case of poor visibility due to fog:
- the vehicle that precedes emits, together with the switching on of the rear fog lamps, an infrared ray; - the receiving device on the following car emits a sound and a flashing everytime the security distance is reduced, thus advising the driver of the danger.
