Abstract
A cosmetic is provided for the treatment of skin blemishes, the cosmetic is substantially non-pigmented so as to form a smooth surface over which a further cosmetic can be applied.
Description
COSMETIC TREATMENT
The invention relates to a method of, and means for the cosmetic treatment of skin blemishes.
Blemishes such as fine lines, wrinkles, liver spots, and acne scarring that consist of perturbations in the skin surface are commonly regarded as unsightly, and various cosmetic treatments have been proposed to remedy them. Foundation creams are often used. These are tinted and can help to mask discolouration that may be associated with such blemishes, but they are less successful if they are applied more thickly to fill and smooth over skin perturbations because the foundation layer is likely to crack, and the extra depth of pigment filling a perturbation can make it darker and more prominent, producing a "graining effect".
An object of the present invention is to provide a treatment which overcomes the aforesaid problems with foundation creams and allows a substantially optically smooth finish to be achieved with blemishes. The whole skin surface can then be treated with foundation products without particular attention having to be paid to the blemished area.
According to the present invention, a method of treatment consists in applying a material to skin blemishes or perturbations so as to smooth them over. Said material is
preferably flexible to resist cracking once applied, is substantially non-pigmented, and is non-reactive to other cosmetic products so as to allow the latter to be applied over the top and produce a desired smooth surface finish. The flexibility of the material ensures that the skin does not feel tight once the product is applied. The lack of pigmentation avoids the "graining effect", the material being transparent or translucent or at least lacking any significant pigmentation .
Preferably, said material consists of wax or oil, or a blend of waxes or blend of oils, or a blend of both, such as to have the required flexibility and stickability to hold to the skin surface.
Preferably, said material incorporates a carrier which assists smooth application and which rapidly evaporates or dissipates or otherwise reacts to leave a finished deposit ready for any subsequent cosmetic treatment, such as the application of a foundation cream.
Said carrier may consist of alcohol or polyol or light silicone oils .
Preferably, said material consists of a blend of waxes, oils, and silicone oils in which the oil is absorbed into the skin so as to leave a waxy matrix as a finished deposit. The microcrystalline structure of this deposit is such as to give
it the required properties of flexibility and stickability, and a basis for the subsequent application of pigmented foundation products .
Preferably, said flexible, non-pigmented material is applied locally to blemishes in the form of a pencil, or lipstick-type dispenser, or fine spray, or fine roller-ball or other suitable means .
As well as the method of cosmetic treatment described above, the invention consists in said material used to fill and smooth over skin blemishes, which material is claimed as a cosmetic material and might best be described as a skin blemish equaliser. The equaliser according to the invention is claimed per se, and also in its various forms ready for use such as a cosmetic pencil, a lipstick-type dispenser, or a spray dispenser, or fine roller-ball.
Claims
1. A cosmetic which is substantially non-pigmented and non-reactive to other cosmetic products so as to allow the latter to be applied over the cosmetic to produce a desired smooth surface finish.
2. A cosmetic as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that the cosmetic is flexible to resist cracking once applied.
3. A cosmetic as claimed in claim 1 or 2 , characterised in that the cosmetic comprises wax or oil, or a blend of waxes or a blend of oils, or a blend of both such as to have the required flexibility and stickability to hold the skin surface.
4. A cosmetic as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterised by incorporating a carrier which assists smooth application and which rapidly evaporates or dissipates or otherwise reacts to leave a finished deposit ready for the application of a further cosmetic substance.
5. A cosmetic as claimed in claim 4, characterised in that the carrier consists of alcohol or polyol or light silicone oils.
6. A cosmetic as claimed in claim 3, characterised in that it consists of a blend of waxes, oils and silicone oils in which the oil is absorbed into the skin so as to leave a waxy matrix as a finished deposit.
7. A cosmetic as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the cosmetic is applied in the form of a pencil, or is contained in a lipstick-type dispenser, or is delivered in the form of a spray or from a roller ball.
