Definitions
- This invention relates to a barbecue, portable and/or fixedly installed and for use in preparing food by heating.
- Barbecues for preparing food by heating are known that util- ize combustion of solid fuels such as charcoal, coal and the like to provide the required heat.
- Other known barbecues utilize combustion of a fluid fuel such as butane gas either alone or combined with a heat distributor in the form of lava pebbles or stones. It is also known to utilize electrical heating devices for heating the food in a barbecue.
- Some food is best suited for one or another of the above mentioned heat sources. Meat with a high content of meltable fat thus often gives rise to problems with flames resulting from ignition of the fat deposited for instance on the lava stones of a fluid fuel fired barbecue. Other problems or unsatisfactory results are connected with utilization of solid fuels and electrical heating.
- U.S. -patent 4,819,614 discloses a duel fuel barbecue grill having a burner element such as a gas burner or an electrical heating element and a tray for carrying charcoal briquettes.
- the gas burner is stationary mounted to the bottom part of the barbecue grill while the tray in a first position is suited for carrying charcoal briquettes and in a second position is placed in a shielding relationship to the burner element.
- the prior art barbecue grill according to U.S. -patent 4,819,614, however, is not flexible with regard to exchangeability of the two heat sources as the burner/electrical element is an integral part of the barbecue grill. Thus, it is difficult or even impossible to detach the burner/electrical element from the barbecue firebox and consequently it is inconvenient or even impossible to utilize the barbecue grill as a portable grill. Further, this prior art barbecue grill does not provide alternative or additional heat sources, e.g., for better control of the cooking process .
- a barbecue of the type in reference comprising adapting means for receiving any one of a first and a second holding member at a time, each of the first and the second holding member carrying at least one of at least two different heat sources such as combustion of solids such as charcoal, wood, coal or the like, combustion of fluids such as butane gas, paraffin, kerosene or the like, elec- trical heating and any other suitable heat source.
- the same barbecue may utilize different heat sources thereby allowing the most desired preparation of the different types of food with a single barbecue.
- the user of the barbecue may choose to possess only one holding member, or he may choose to transport one holding member only when transporting the barbecue from one location to another .
- Each of the first and second holding members may carry one heat source only. Thereby one heating source carried by the first holding member may be removed and substituted by another heating source carried by the second holding member.
- the barbecue may comprise additional heat sources.
- the holding members may be trays for receiving charcoal, coal, wood or the like or devices for combusting and/or containing fluids such as butane gas, paraffin, kerosene or the like or they may be electrical heating devices or any other suitable devices.
- the adapting means may allow alternative use of at least two different heat sources, simultaneous use of at least two different heat sources and that at least partially different regions of the barbecue are heated by the different heat sources.
- the barbecue is very flexible for use either for uniform preparation of the same food in relatively large quantities, combined treatment with different heat sources (electrical heating for sausages and charcoal heating for steaks) , broiling with one heat source and keep- ing warm with another or simultaneous preparation of different types of food such as meat and vegetables with different heat sources.
- different heat sources electrical heating for sausages and charcoal heating for steaks
