The present specification refers, as its title indicates, to an oral radiation protection shield, intended to prevent injuries caused by irradiation in the oral cavity, both in dental pieces and in periodental tissues, as well as in various tissues and elements bone.
At present, and according to our criteria, there is no known element of similar characteristics to the invention presented, which causes serious problems for patients who need radiotherapy treatment in the oral cavity, or in the immediate vicinity , since it is demonstrated that the application of radiotherapy in the aforementioned areas produces a considerable loss of bone mass, tooth decay and fragility in the dental pieces, interruption in the dental eruption, tissue necrosis, changes in saliva and in the oral microortanisms, among other alterations.
To solve the problems described above, the oral radiation shield has been devised, which is composed of two units, one of which logically corresponds to the upper jaw, while the other will belong to the lower jaw.
La unidad correspondiente al maxilar superior comporta un perfil angular con forma plantar seπu- elíptica, quedando el hueco central cerrado de formaThe unit corresponding to the upper jaw has an angular profile with a septic elliptic shape, the central hollow being closed
Optionally, the lead base can also be used without coatings. Frontally, and on both sides, multiple notches are made. As for the unit corresponding to the lower jaw, it adopts in its section the shape of an inverted U, to be planted to be defined semi-elliptically, its remaining characteristics being equal to those of the piece corresponding to the upper jaw.
The oral radiation protection protector that is presented, provides multiple advantages through its use, since it avoids the injuries caused by radiotherapy, of which, among others, we will mention the loss of bone mass, tooth decay and the fragility of the teeth, interruption of dental eruption, tissue necrosis and modifications in saliva and oral microorganisms.
