Abstract
A process and device are disclosed to improve the starting characteristics of an oil diffusion burner (1) with at least one spraying nozzle (2) that finely sprays the oil in a combustion chamber. Shortly before and during the beginning of oil supply, a combustion gas is supplied and ignited through at least one hole (3) close to the spraying nozzle (2), creating an auxiliary flame during the starting phase of the diffusion burner (1). The invention is particularly suitable for swirling spraying nozzles under pressure, in particular return-regulated ones. A water supply system that supplies water to reduce nitrogen emissions in the starting phase may in particular be used for feeding combustion gas. The starting characteristics of the oil diffusion burner may thus become almost comparable to those of a gas burner.
