Definitions

  • the invention relates to a golf tee as defined in the first part of claim 1.
  • Golf tees (or “pegs” as they are also known) of the aforementioned type are well known in the art. Such golf tees are used for raising a golf ball from the ground to assist the player in hitting the ball during a game of golf or on the driving range for example. Golf tees are commonly made of either plastic or wood.
  • golf tees vary somewhat in appearance and may be long or short for different playing conditions.
  • golf tees are generally defined by having a head portion and a stem portion, whereby said head portion includes an upper surface for supporting a golf ball thereon and said stem portion is integrally formed with said head portion and provides a thinner portion for insertion into the ground.
  • Said thinner portion is provided with a pointed end at one end and being attached to the head portion at the other end.
  • Wooden tees have now become the norm since plastic tees are, amongst other things, damaging for the environment.
  • each player is required to note the score of his fellow players and thus requires a writing instrument of some type to mark the score on the score-card.
  • Pencils are preferred for this purpose since they do not leak (which is possible with an ink pen for example) and the writing on the score-card does not run if the score-card gets wet.
  • Carrying many items is often annoying for the golfer and golfers thus often try and minimise the number of golf articles that they have to take with them.
  • the golfer In particular with golf tees and a pencil in the golfer's pocket, the golfer often wastes a large amount of time in finding the pencil or golf tee at the required time.
  • the present invention aims to solve the aforementioned problems to a certain degree by minimising the amount of golf equipment that the golfer needs to carry and in a way which allows economic golf tees to be produced.
  • a golf tee is shown in the figure comprising a head portion 1 attached to a stem portion 3.
  • the head portion 1 and the stem portion 2 are formed in one piece, from a single piece of material such as wood or another environmentally friendly material such as compressed paper pulp for example.
  • the stem portion 3 has a free end generally designated as 5 in the figure and the head portion 1 presents an upper surface 4 which has a slight cup shape (as conventional) in order to support a golf ball thereon.
  • a marking implement 2 is fitted into the golf tee and passes through the free end of the stem portion 2 thus enabling it to be used for marking a score-card just like a normal pencil.
  • the extent of projection of the marking implement will depend on various considerations, but will preferably be of the order of a few millimetres.
  • the marking implement 2 is made from a carbon rod, and not a graphite/lead rod as used in a normal pencil. This is a particularly important feature when considering that the requirements for an environmentally-friendly product are to be achieved, since carbon will readily break down and cause no damage to the environment.
  • the marking implements used in golf are typically graphite or ink pens
  • the invention in this advantageous embodiment moves away from this pre-conceived concept and uses a carbon rod instead.
  • the pencil lead is fitted centrally within said stem and extends from outside the free end of the stem portion through the head portion to a location which is substantially flush or below the upper surface of the head portion.
  • the marking implement is shown as being substantially flush with the upper surface.
  • said pencil lead or the like might be fitted into only a small portion of the free end of said golf tee in order to save materials to a maximum extent. This may be especially advantageous since several golf tees are often lost during a single round of golf.
  • the upper end of said marking implement may be painted or covered with a suitable coating, in particular a coating which closely resembles the colour of the tee body.
